“Camping Fabulous”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2009

Just spent a few days at Camping Fabulous, which is situated about half-way between the city ring-road and the coast at Ostia, just off Via Christoforo Columbo.
The site is OK depending on which company you book accommodation with.( there are several of the larger companies on site) Most of the them are based around the pool area which is quite nicely finished with paved pathways but we booked with EC Vacanze, (whom we have used before) and their units are all at the far end of the site which has no made-up roads or pathways, just stone and gravel. We took our 18 month old grandson and virtually wrecked a brand new pushchair on our journeys to the pool and shop/restaurant!
Also the areas around our unit were not made up, we stepped out straight onto rough ground and stones. The unit itself however was up to the usual high standards of ECV. Although it was an older CP2, and well used, it was immaculately clean and in good working order. Incidentally ECV have installed aircon into a number of CP2's on this site.
The only other problem we had was the shop, as it didn't stock anything, and I mean anything, for babies...no food, no nappies...nout!...other than that it was adequate, with helpful friendly staff. The staff on site were also all very helpful and efficient.
The problem is we flew to Fiumicino and got a taxi to the site, if we had transport .we could have easily gone off-site to buy our bits and pieces, we normally do hire a car but decided for this trip to just stay put and have a lazy week!! I do however like to support the site shops and restaurants etc who rely on your custom.
The big plus on this site is the lagoon pool which is great...for all ages!....our little one loved it! and as long as you don't mind the noise of the cicada's you should be OK here..with a car!

We felt that there was more Italians that had decamped to this campsite from the city or not than there was tourists. The restaurant had a very poor selection and didn't cater for kids. The bar was basic. The campsite mini-market hadn't got a great selection and wasn't good value.
Location to the city for travelling into Rome or indeed to the beach was good about 30 mins on public transport either way. Wouldn't rush back.

stayed here recently with family. 2 kids 9 and 5. the pool is fantastic with views to st peters basillica. our caravan was lovely and clean and larger than i thought it would be, huge covered veranda. although the shower was terrible so we used the on site showers which were brilliant.
the restaurant served up awful fast food, even the lasagna was like a birds eye frozen effort just heated in the microwave and it cost 7 euros.
the staff were very helpful as the cash points wouldn't recognise our visa cards. which was a pain as we had to find a bureau de change to get more money. the Rome by night trip is well worth doing, its not cheap but the guide is good and there is no stress and the kids didn't have to walk miles to see all the fantastic sites.

We arrived during the middle of an unseasonal heatwave for the time of year plenty of shade under well established trees. The well supervised pools (1 a kiddies) where welcome relieve. The onsite shop was well stocked with a wide range of essential and non essential goods.
Probaly crowded in august but no advance booking required in june.
Time required to travel in to city centre was between 40 mins and an 1 hour depending on time of day.
All the staff were very helpful and multi lingual,
Stayed 4 nights and would stay again.
