I had the best time in Rome and I put some of that experience down to the hassle free Pensione Giamaica attitude. The owner and his mother were very good at giving us information when we were a little confused/ lost but also leaving us to our own devises when we went off exploring.

If your looking for 5 star luxury or air conditioning, then this is not the place for you. But, if you're looking for a clean and tidy place to crash after a day out seeing the sights or after experiencing the night life Rome has to offer, then this is your place. They don't have a safe but they do give you the key to your room and the front door of the building which makes coming and going very stressless (we never had any troubles with theft whatsoever).

The location is brilliant too. It's about 3 mins to the Stazione Termini and about 4 to the bus depot at the back making day or night time travels stupidly easy. The underground train to the Colosseum, for example, is about 2 mins (being only 2 stops away from Termini) and the number 64 bus, that goes from the station, will take you to Campo di Fiori, our place of choice for a night out/ food.

The only negative I can really think of is the temperature of the room, it gets quite hot there in the summer. They do provide a fan which helps a little, but there were a few nights where there was no respite from the heat.

All in all, it was top! I would definitely stay there again. In fact, I am when I return to Roma later this year.

Happy Rome-ing

The hotel is less than 5 minutes from the train station but is on the 5th floor and the lift was not working while we were there. It is at least 20 minutes walk to the major attractions (forum, coluseum, etc...). The room was very cold an night in February and we had no control over the heat. The shared bathroom is strange because it has no shower curtain and water gets everywhere when you take a shower.

The price is good for Rome which is an expensive city and the double room was pretty big for the price. The owner let us use his fridge for our groceries which was nice. The area is perfectly safe which is good since it is near the main train station.

Also, we had to pay in cash which was somewhat of an inconvenience since it was a large amount for 4 nights. Overall I would stay here again but would probably look for some other places first with shower curtains.

  • Liked — The dog and closeness to train station
  • Disliked — No shower curtain and cold room

My mother and I stayed here and we both very much enjoyed our stay. Our hosts were great and warned us of the do's and don'ts although we did get pickpocketed on the subway. The location was perfect for us to catch buses and trains. Small markets and shops to purchase water, food and wine!! Internet cafes just around the corner.
It's quite, clean and we felt safe staying there, we both would come back to stay again.

  • Liked — the quiteness and the dog
  • Disliked — the church bell

While the accommodations are inexpensive (which is hard to find in Rome), the place was in need of repair and an upgrade. The location was excellent, very close the major train station. On the upside, the owners were very friendly and accommodating. Plus, we booked a 3 bed room, but because there were only two of us, we were only chared for 2.

  • Liked — Owners were friendly and accommodating
  • Disliked — Accommodation needed repairs

we stayed in the triple room. It was big and nice. The staff are very kind and helpful, especially the lady. She can't speak Engliash but she tried very hard to recommend us about where to go and warned us about the pickpocket. We used a lot of body language.
