“Comfortable enough, Good facilities, average 20 mins to city centre.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2012

My wife and I just returned from 4 nights at the Flaminio. I was pleasantly surprised by the bungalow that we had ( we booked a basic room) there was a fridge, a good heater/air cond unit, towels, extra blankets, and the beds were comfortable. The bathroom had a good size shower, bidet and washbasin. The bungalow was quite small but clean as was the rest of the camp.
The camp provided an information point, which was very handy when you first arrive to answer all the questions about transport, admission , and locations etc, and also a complimentary breakfast, which was reasonable ( I dont think we should complain about these as they are complimentary). There was also a small shop, bar & restaurant.
The journey from the camp to the city centre took 20 mins on average from Du ponti station to Flaminio ( the gateway into Rome) from here you could get a Metro train ( like our underground) to get closer to your destination. You can basically walk to all the main tourist attractions in about half an hour ( as long as you can follow the map and negotiate the road crossings. (The drivers in Rome do not stop for tourists despite which colour the traffic lights are !).
We were out of the camp after breakfast and probably back in the evening around 20.00 ( after alot of walking we just wanted to relax for a couple of hours in the bar before bed.) therefore we didn't have the problems with the roads that other reviewers have mentioned and we were also back in time to catch the courtesy bus in the camp.
Overall I would recommend this site to friends ( we were woken up in the mornings by a neighbouring properties dogs) but I think it was nice to get away from the hustle & bustle of Rome in the evenings to a more tranquil place before doing it all again the next day.

Room Tip: We stayed in a Firenze bungalow ( and you could hear dogs barking first thing in the morning). If i w...

Room is what it is. Cheap so didn't expect much. Was clean which was all I wanted really.

Ate at the restaurant and it's a huge disappointment. Would recommend against it. €18 for a mixed grill which consists of a thin piece of pork, a thin piece of lamb, a small sausage and rooster (allegedly). All cooked well done with juices falling out of it and not left to rest. A small plate of chips came 5-10mins later as did the normal bread you're given as you decide what to order. The meat is too salty as well.

White wine goes warm and no ice bucket is provided.

Tiramisu, which was not on the menu, comes in its own bowl. Made god knows when as the cream had stuck to the bowl. Probably the worst tiramisu I've ever had!

All in all a €35 meal that I'd happily pay €15 for!

Staying for 5 nights. Nowhere to dry my towels. Have to pay €4 for a clean one or put in dryer for €5 in washing area.

Is a little out of the way and not difficult to get into town from Flaminio Village if you go by train. However, if you think about getting the bus god help you. I waited over an hour to take the bus 15mins down the main road at night. Missed the first half of the Lazio game as a result - which meant ticket office was closed and had to beg to be let inside.

Bungalows are basic and the lack of heating can leave the room damp; as the power is off when you leave and can't be left on.

Plumbing is strange as well. My shower started when the person next door finished their shower and I was awoken by a dripping shower in my bathroom!

Would I come again? Probably not. I'd organise myself a bit better, save up and book somewhere closer to town. For £20 a night though you can't really complain.

The GOOD: Peaceful place, nice shower, air conditioning, heater, extra thick blankets for cold nights, clean toilets, got the basics needed for someone on a budget, got an old small tv (but CNN is the only english channel), small ref with two free bottles of water, small shampoos and soap in the bathroom, 2 sets of towels. The area was actually pretty. Nice restaurant which serve yummy pastas, and helpful tourism booth where you can buy tour tickets and even day or single journey tickets!

The Not-so-GOOD: LOCATION!
Far from the city! takes us about an hour to ride the metro/bus combinations at night since train out of the city stops early. If you retire from a city tour early, then the trains are really faster. The train station in front is not so near. Like the other reviews here, you have to cross a highway first (good thing there is a light for those crossing), then walk about 200 meters where there is no side walk so you have to watch your back, then cross another highway where there is NO cross walk! You have to wait for the cars to be stuck in traffic before you can cross or wait until no cars come! after successfully crossing that, there is a sign pointing to the station, where you will see an old dilapidated looking station. I saw that they have a newer station beside it but has not opened it to public yet. Waiting for the train takes some time, though I wasn't able to time its frequency.

OTHER OBSERVATIONS:

BUNGALOWS: These are located about 1 kilometer or less from the reception area. The management says its a 5-minute walk (maybe if u walk fast). They do have an electric golf cart that transport you from the reception to the bungalows, but it has a schedule so you better take note of that. Also, it runs only until 8pm. But if you are lucky to ride it everyday, then the long driveway is not so bad after all!

ROOM: I just hated the little cockroaches we found in the fridge and in the toilet, but I guess being at the middle of trees, it is inevitable. Oh there is no hairdryer so don't forget to bring your own! Each single bed only has 1 pillow! Outside the room, is a small veranda where you can hang out and eat snacks or chill while drinking your fave beverages... I had undisturbed sleep because it is quiet (couldn't hear the dogs) and the curtains are dark you'd think its still night!

BREAKFAST: It has the same selection all 3 mornings we ate there: scrambled eggs sliced like pizza (i personally think its too dry), hard boiled eggs, ham and cheese (no variety, just a single kind), sliced bread, and some sweet croissants and bread with fruits, cereal, butter, jam... and 1 hot drink for each guest. It's OK, but eating it 3 days in a row is not fun :P

VERDICT: Its a nice and affordable place to stay, HOWEVER, it is outside the city and taking the trains and bus can be tiring after a whole day of touring the city. I would love to give it a 4 out of 5 rating, but the tiring experience took it a notch down.

Nice camping resort. A little bit outside of the city centre, but good train and bus connections. Beware of the breakfast.

Ok so here are the good points... Location (10 mins on a train into Rome), great pool, decent restaurant and lovely grounds.
Bad points: Be careful what you book! We booked a 'superior room' which was very basic, only 1 English channel (CNN news) towels and bedding changed once a week! not very superior!
I would stay here again but only stay in an apartment and not in a room as there was nowhere to make food etc and the furniture etc was very worn. Saying that, if you are on a budget and don't mind the train journey (10 mins) this place is ideal.
They also have an information office which was a fantastic help booking discounted tickets etc.
There are dogs barking a lot nearby (think it is some kind of kennel) however we were lucky enough to be far enough away for them to become a problem.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms and only book the apartments!

We stayed in one of Flaminio's bungalows. The bungalow itself was good - clean, comfy bed - really great shower in the bathroom. We found the park really pleasant, although we didn't try the pool. Breakfast was okay - they tended to run out of options fairly quickly and we aren't the earliest of risers, so it was probably better if you got there early. The staff weren't exactly friendly and welcoming, but they were attentive enough if you needed something.

Location was a bit of an issue - but then we knew where it was when we booked it, so that's our fault really! The trains stop fairly early from Rome - around 10.30pm and we found ourselves getting cabs back most evening, which meant that any money we'd saved on staying outside of the centre of Rome was spent on this. The walk from the camp to the train station is kind of bizarre - as others have stated, you're basically sharing a busy dual carraigeway with the traffic.

The best thing about the Bungalow Park was actually a restaurant nearby - Trattoria Ai Due Ponti. Defintely go there if you stay here - the best meal we had in Rome.

We spent 3 days in the camp, because we were traveling by camper and we were with children. You can easily reach the city center by train and then by metro. It will lead you to the main station Termini, where you can catch an open tour. The camp facilities were in excellent condition, clean and with good laundry service. The girl at the information office was very helpful. I strongly recommend the camp ground.
