I booked to stay at the Camelia Hotel for 3 nights in December 2007. It was for a romantic getaway/birthday treat - I hit the big '30'. The hotel was superb. The staff were great and very helpful on places to eat nearby, and also help as regards the best way to get round the city. The rooms were spotlessly clean, and very nicely furnished - the best I have stayed in. The breakfast is your usual continental - but again a good start to the day. The coffee was lovely. Try local restaurants to the hotel, mama angelos and famigilia restaurants. They were good. Also, there were some nice more expensive restaurants around the republicca stop. Hotel is about 10 minutes walk from the terminal station. The cheapest way to get from Ciampino Airport is by the terravision bus. I paid online via their website before we went, but you can pay on arrival. I think it was 7 euros each. We had a superb time in Rome. It was a lovely break, and I think 3 nights/4 days was just the right amount of time. We found the easiest way to get around was on/off the metro which stopped at all the sites. The colosseum and vatican are a must see. We paid extra outside to queue jump and have a tour of the collosseum which was well worth it. I cant understand other reviews that say the hotel wasnt clean - as it was completely spotless. Tip for cafe nearest the vatican - it is twice as expensive for a coffee if you sit down rather than stand up! You cant go wrong with the Camelia. We paid less than £400 for flights and hotel in December for the long weekend with Cresta Holidays.
