I booked to stay at the Camelia Hotel for 3 nights in December 2007. It was for a romantic getaway/birthday treat - I hit the big '30'. The hotel was superb. The staff were great and very helpful on places to eat nearby, and also help as regards the best way to get round the city. The rooms were spotlessly clean, and very nicely furnished - the best I have stayed in. The breakfast is your usual continental - but again a good start to the day. The coffee was lovely. Try local restaurants to the hotel, mama angelos and famigilia restaurants. They were good. Also, there were some nice more expensive restaurants around the republicca stop. Hotel is about 10 minutes walk from the terminal station. The cheapest way to get from Ciampino Airport is by the terravision bus. I paid online via their website before we went, but you can pay on arrival. I think it was 7 euros each. We had a superb time in Rome. It was a lovely break, and I think 3 nights/4 days was just the right amount of time. We found the easiest way to get around was on/off the metro which stopped at all the sites. The colosseum and vatican are a must see. We paid extra outside to queue jump and have a tour of the collosseum which was well worth it. I cant understand other reviews that say the hotel wasnt clean - as it was completely spotless. Tip for cafe nearest the vatican - it is twice as expensive for a coffee if you sit down rather than stand up! You cant go wrong with the Camelia. We paid less than £400 for flights and hotel in December for the long weekend with Cresta Holidays.

I recently visited the Hotel Camelia and found it to be very nice and a great value. The rooms were very clean and although not huge, very comfortable ... exactly as pictured on Venere.com. Breakfast was basic but okay and the staff was very attentive. It has a very convenient location, approximately 4 blocks from Termini Station and about a 15 minute walk to Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps. Originally, I contacted the hotel directly for rates but found the rates on Venere.com to be much better. Overall, this hotel offers an excellent value as a solid 3 star property and I would definitely stay here again.

  • Liked — Clean rooms, good location, excellent value.
  • Disliked — Not a great selection for breakfast.

We arrived at midnight on the day of our stay. I rang the guy from the airport to say we would be late. No problem.

On arriving the receptionist was friendly and welcoming and gave us a map highlighting all the tourists bits we might be interested in and how to get around (bus numbers etc.)

The breakfast is a bit spartan but if you ate pasta and pizza the night before who can handle more than a croissant and some fruit. It was fine but no more than that.

First night we wanted to eat in the area, I found a restaurant in our guide book and the receptionist phoned up to check if it was fully booked for the night. It wasn't so another tick.

The room was small but big enough for sleeping in comfortably. It had a desk, tv, wardrobe with free safe inside. The bathroom was also compact and the shower would struggle to contain somebody carrying a large gait. It was also clean and looked modern enough.

Finally the location is good for the main train station (5min walk) yet also close enough to be walking distance into the touristy bits. We did alot of walking though, It's approx 20 mins to the trevi fountain on foot and about 45 to the vatican.

Small room with carpet covered in stains. the saving grace was the bathroom which was modern and clean. Service at the 'average' breakfast was impersonal, bordering on rude. At 10.00 on the dot the staff switched off the lights and TV irrespective of how many guests were still eating. We were charged £150 per night for 7 nights by Cresta. Absolutely not worth the money.

Dirty rooms, very poor breakfast, impolite service. Giving different prices for taxis to the airport.
