“A little over rated”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2014

The location is fabulous, the price is good, the bed is comfortable and the rooms are very clean.

Rudi is knowledgeable and helpful. His restaurant recommendations are fabulous.

But...

Breakfast is instant coffee that you prepare yourself and supermarket pastries individually cello wrapped. The fridge is well stocked with juice, water and yogurt.

Wifi is hit and miss. The shower can go from hot to freezing cold and back again in a nano second. Keeps you on your toes in the morning.

It is very secure. You need three keys to gain entry and they rarely work the first time. You need a little divine intervention sometimes to gain access.

Room Tip: Stay away from the front room. Scooter wiz bye the window 24/7.

This B and B certainly has a certain charm to it.. Location is perfect for visiting Vatican City and rudi and Claudia were extremely welcoming and informative regarding transport, the sights etc.. Downside: yes the place could do with Air conditioning and a fresh luck of paint! Cotton bedding would be an improvement. The floors in bathrooms are tricky to negotiate especially if you have sampled the local montepulciano, I fell once as there is a step which is easily missed! Rudy and his wife have a delightful baby but truth be told this baby is noisy., REALLY noisy so not exactly the relaxing break we were after! However as a base
with somewhere to cook a basic meal, Vatican Beb was more than adequate.

We stayed there for 3 nights.

The positives:

1. Location you are quite literally opposite the entrance to the Vatican Museum. Give and take 20 meters.
2. Friendly owner who is also very helpful and gives you his personal number if you run into any problems (we never called so we can't rate that).
3. The guest kitchen is available to you at all times. Includes coffee and pastries and various sorts of tea.
4. The tidying of the room was great. If you leave your clothes on the bed or hanging over a chair it will be folded.
5. There's a tiny built in safe in the wall to leave important documents, free to use.
6. Room is spacious not like some bed and breakfasts in London.
7. Round the clock WiFi. Good enough for your smartphone.
8. You get a map upon check in with a 20 minute briefing on Rome and the bus routes to and from the hotel. We found that nice and helpful.

The negatives or points in which they need to improve:

1. Overall cleanliness. The silicone linings in the bathroom is covered in black fungus. That left me standing on my heels, toes lifted as I showered. These things are inexpensive and quick work too. The bedsheets just looked old and were faded from frequent wash. We did not use the comforter. Bed was acceptable.
2. The foot wash basin next to the toilet had a fungus lined drainage hole. It was black and a simple brush would have rubbed it off.
3. The rooms could use a fresh coat of paint. The wall under the window looked moldy.
4. The fresh towels were old and washed and rewashed. Some felt like really rough sandpaper. They need new towels without a doubt.
5. The continental breakfast isn't really what I was expecting. There's no eggs sausages or warm croissants. They do supply you with bread and jam and butter. The rest are packed snacks like tiny muffins and tarts. The upside is you have excess to them all day.
6. The satellite TV is useless unless you speak fluent Italian or have fun listening to it. All the English Channels are not subscribed for but that was okay as we were not really there to watch TV.

We paid slightly more than 70 Euros per night. I've had better in London with a last minute booking during the Olympics for less than that (okay the room in London was smaller). I would recommend the place if some changes are made but definitely not the way it is and for the price we paid. So I'd probably try some other place the next time we are in Rome.

Room Tip: We chose this Bread and Breakfast based on the reviews from several websites and we were shocked to...

Perfect location for everything in Rome: close to the Vatican and public transportations to anywhere.
The hosts are young and very nice. They gave us useful information and kind advices for our stay and dinner. Family breakfast with no fresh bakery or fruit.
The room is simple but comfortable. Repainting and some renovation could be advisable.

Rudi was very hospitable and extremely helpful especially for those who do not have any idea of what to do and where to go in Rome for the first time.
about 15mins walking distance to the nearest metro station (Ottaviano) line A. accessible to visit the usual suspects and you would be the first in line for the vatican museum as it's located right in front of the entrance.
average rates per night inclusive of tax was around 28EUR inclusive of breakfast and wifi.

The thing to remember when staying in Rome and especially in this B&B, is that Rome was built thousands of years ago. That being said, this B&B is literally across the street from the Vatican Museum entrance. This is a good and bad thing. It puts you right out into the best location for walking and seeing all that Rome has to offer, but the traffic on this street can be a little overwhelming. My wife and I ran into the same dilema as another traveler who was street side- keep the window open to cool off and brave the noise and fumes, or close the window and suffer through the stale air. It's kind of a crapshoot. Anyway, the room isn't much to get excited about, but was clean upon our arrival. Our hosts Rudi and his wife are genuinely nice. He gave us great directions to some wonderful restaurants and helped us navigate the city on a map. That is the best asset to this B&B.
