We were schedule to stay here on our return to Rome. Our first stop in Rome was at the Best Western Canada Hotel. During our first stay we decided to check out this hotel. It was in a different area near Termini station than the Best Western. The area was unappealing, even during the day - covered in graffiti and rather scary. The hotel is accessed via a short stairway to an elevator. We did look at the rooms, they looked okay, but we decided we would rather spend the extra 20 Euro and return to the Best Western which is in a much more secure area of Termini station.

My husband and I just returned from a 10-day vacation to Italy. We started our trip here at Principe Eugenio (first 3 nights) and it was just what we expected after reading the reviews from this site. Our room was very large with a great balcony (Room 3) and although it was on a noisy side-street (not too busy, but typical noise)...we didn't hear a thing in our room. It was easy to see they had new, sound-proof windows and they worked wonderfully. Our room was clean, nice towels, hot shower, and a nice little breakfast in the morning (typical European breakfast). One of the best things in my opinion was the location. It was very close to the Termini Train Station (hub for all buses and metro trains). We usually took the 105 bus from the train station -- only 3 stops away and it dropped us off right in front of the hotel. But we could even walk there. Also, there's 2 metro stops within walking distance. Keep in mind that I'm almost 6 months pregnant and had NO PROBLEM getting to and from our hotel the whole time. Also, some people mentioned that it was in a "seedy part of town" and I really disagree. It's just that it's more residential, so you don't have tons of tourists or touristy hot-spots in the immediate area around the hotel. We really liked this aspect, and never felt unsafe in any way. It was quiet at night and fun to see the normal hussle and bustle of morning rush for the everyday Romans. Also, it was very convenient having a large super market DIRECTLY across the street. We bought lots of fruit there at a great price. Next time we're in Rome, we'll definitely stay here again. Simple hotel but exactly what we were looking for.

We stayd there for 3 nights , it's a nice hotel, with a very good value for money.
Entrance and surroundings don't look promising but once inside rooms are very spacious and clean (seem renovated recently).
Breakfast is basic but OK and the location is also good, about a mile from Termini with a nearby metro and bus station, but not in a walking distance from the main attractions outside the Colosseum.

We have stayed in this hotel for 4 days in 2006. The neighborhood is a little frightening, the front of the building was under reconstruction. The staff is composed by 3 generations of a italian family,
The breakfast isn´t a feast...

We stayed at the Principe Eugenio from a Fri-Mon, we couldn't find the hotel at first but navigation is not our strongest point! After asking some very helpful shop/bar/hotel staff we found we were just being daft not finding it in the first place! Once we arrived the owner couldn't have been more helpful. As we booked the hotel through Venere we were given a confirmation number and payment was due at check-out, but without an email or text message Venere precceded to cancel our hotel booking without any knowledge to us, even though a confirmation was very easily sent to us? The hotel owner's, although well within their legal rights did not send us away, they did every thing to honour the booking and well and truly went out their way to accommodate us. The room was very spacious with a small balcony overlooking the main street, although the street has many trams and cars going by at all hours, inside the room was very quite and the bathroom was huge with my husband refusing to leave the shower because it was that good. The breakfast was also good with a range of cold meats, boiled eggs, cheese and bread with plently of drinks. The area, although it looks quite run down and unsafe, is quite the opposite. We walked quite happily and safely everywhere the whole weekend even into the early hours of the morning, the only transport we took was the terravision bus to and from the airport. Everything is within walking distance from this hotel if you wish to walk, but if you want to miss alot there is a tram stop directly outside the hotel. From this location you can see all the major tourist sights on foot and some little local gems too, with the hotel owner more than willing to point you in the right direction if you just ask.
I cannot fault this hotel at all, although it may not be the Ritz, it does not pretend to be a 5 star hotel but in my opinion it's better!
We will certainly be back and would recommend you go too. Next time though I would definatly book directly through the hotel or another website and not Venere who are in my opinion are very incompetent, the only thing wrong with this break!
Thank you staff at the Principe Eugenio!
