I stayed at the Villa Rosa Hotel, Rome, recently during a school trip. On a school trip one does not expect to stay in a 5* hotel but I did hope that this hotel would be better considering it has earned its 3*s (somehow)!
The rooms we stayed in cost €100 per night which could just about accomodate 2 or 3 people. However, the rooms would ideally be big enough for one person and still wouldn't seem oversized.
My bed had a wooden plank underneath it. It was relatively uncomfortable but when finding out another boy's bed clapsed after sitting on it I was grateful that the wooden plank was there for additional support. Also, above my bed there was a small light (broken anyway) in a rather incovenient place right above my pillow and I was fortunate I did not sustain any head injuries!
The bathroom was minute. The shower had mould in it; in one boy's room their toilet did not refill and our bathroom floor was made of cardboard, not even tiled.
The insulation was poor to the extent that you could hear someones footsteps in the corridor. This didn't bother me that much but if on a family holiday it would have done.
We did not dine in the hotel restaurant but we did have breakfast there which was, being kind, adequate. Mineral water was not on offer and the bread wasn't fresh but it was certainly edible.
I didn't come across the staff that much but they seemed nice but were initially difficult when I tried to change some money but this was only a minor point and was probably due to the language barrier.
The rooms were the overriding negative but there were no good points to our stay either. I am surprised that this hotel has been rated 3*. I have stayed in 3* hotels occasionally within the UK when visiting family and the difference in the standard of rooms (especially) is shocking.
I would never repeat the experience again.
