My girlfriend and I booked a three night stay in this hotel for new year. When we arrived we were told that our reservation by internet "had not been received". The manager then informed us that the internet site had transferred us to another hotel.This was found to be a lie. We had to find another hotel for the first night.

When we returned for the next two nights we were informed that the hotel had no hot water due to the gas supplies in the area being cut off by a security threat to the vatican. We checked with the local police and this was also found to be a lie. We had no hot water for our entire stay!

Our room was situated in a separate "flat" not connected to the main building (see other reviews). The first room we were offered had a broken shutter (stuck open) and broken curtains that could not be closed. The balcony was also filled with broken bricks and furniture. The one other choice, that we took, had shutters but two of them were locked shut. The rooms contained no instructions in the event of fire or emergency, no visible smoke alarms and no designated fire exit in that part of the building (I searched for it)

In short this was a terrible hotel. DO NOT STAY HERE! You will waste your money! If I could have given it 0 stars in this review I would have.

After reading these reviews I guess I was lucky. The hotel cancelled my reservation the day my family was flying to Rome. How do you book another hotel from a plane? In any case they gave no good excuse, just that there were unforseen circumstances, and they were sorry. We called the hotel to complain and they blamed our booking agent, RomeBy. RomeBy, in turn blames the hotel. In any case, I will never use RomeBy again and advise not to use this hotel. I used another agent and rented an apartment instead and had a great time.

when booking the hotel we used an italy guide book. we booked through romeby.com. a week before flying out i decided to look on trip adviser to see if there was any reviews . i then seen 21 comments on the hotel two of those good and the rest was very very bad. we then contacted the hotel with concerns for our safety and the standards of the hotel as the reviews reported different settings to what we had booked for. we were emailed back to assure us that the reviews were not true these reviews were recent in 2006. I decided to go because it had cost us £280.00 and thought surely it cant be that bad? But when we arrived all the comments we had read was true . please do not book this hotel it is very dirty and unsafe . i wasnot expecting much for the price we paid just basic clean accommodation because we would have been out seeing the sights all day but it was absaloutly filthy. if you are looking for a good hotel the bramante at the vatican is very nice hotel and the staff very friendly and breakfast was great but the relais luxtury vaticano is a nightmare from hell i wish i had checked trip adviser at first. Hope this helps other who are traveling to rome. i have complaind to consumer affairs and am waiting on them to respond. rome is a beatiful place i didnt let these people spoil my time in rome but i was out a fortune.

After we booked the hotel i happened to come across this site and read some of the reviews. As most of them were not good i emailed the hotel telling them of this site and how i was concerned the room would not live up to the description and photos. They did email back and assure me we would be happy. When we arrived and got shown to our room there was a bump in the floor between the bedroom and bathroom 12" high! This was so dangerous.
We complained immediately and was told nothing could be done until the next day.
The following day the manager showed us round 3 other rooms which he promised would be either of the same standard or better. The rooms weren't even empty!! They still had peoples things in!!! They were all a lot smaller and run down and we were very disappointed.
My advice......stay well clear.
Even the locals didn't have a good word to say about it.
Luxury??????? I think not
