We have just returned from a trip to Rome, where we spent a wonderful week at Camilla's Villa. The apartment was light and airy and set in beautiful rural surroundings. If you like dogs you will love staying here. Camilla and her brother have three lovely dogs who will make friends with you.
We did not hire a car, but instead used public transport which it the quickest way into Rome. The bus stop is just at the end of the road and bus service is regular. I recommend not travelling between the hours of 7am to 9am as the roads are very busy and the journey can take twice as long. The bus takes you to the metro station and from there it is about a 15 minute journey into the centre of Rome. A ticket costs only 1 euro and last for 75 minutes and is used for bus and metro.
Losts to see and do in Rome but always expect queues, especially at the Vatican!
Never take a taxi if you can help it, they cost a small fortune. We travelled from the airport to Camilla's, which is only 10 kilometres away, it cost us 50 euros! Apparently they charge for the journey back too! If you phone for a taxi the meter starts as soon as they turn the engine on to come and pick you up, so beware.
It was wonderful to return to the house after a long day amid the crowds and noise of Rome and to sit outside in the lovely garden. We sat there one evening and watched bats flying around, I have never seen so many so close up, it was great.
There is a small shop at the garage just a short walk away but if using public transport then I recommend going to the supermarket at the bus station when you get off the metro.
