This hotel is what many in the U.S.A. would categorize as a "boutique" hotel. There is not a full-time receptionist or a breakfast served. Having said that, this place is awesome for travelers exploring Rome and using the hotel as a place to shower and lay their heads. It is clean, modern, air-conditioned, traveler-friendly, and in the middle of it all.

Hostess "Anna" speaks fantastic English and took time to provide us with a map, suggest restaurants and attractions, and provide directions to Rome. Looking out our window and down the street we saw the Colosseum six blocks in the distance.

There can be no better value in Rome. I will look no further when my journeys bring me back to Rome.

If you don't mind the lack of public areas, breakfast, and hotel reception, this is a very nice place to stay. Rooms were clean and modern and quiet. We liked the location on via dei Serpenti.

This is a "bad news/GREAT NEWS" review. First the bad news; as indicated in a previous review, Hotel Sunset is more of a "Guest House" than a full-services hotel. There's no elevator, no lobby to speak of, very little of the North American-style 24 hour services and, depending where your room is situated, early morning traffic can be a factor. The GREAT NEWS? A GREAT LOCATION, close to the ancient sections of Rome. (10 minutes to the Colosseum & Forum - other sites branch out from there) & close to the Metro (10-15 minutes depending on the line selected.) The Gelato shop just down the street is incredible as is the nearby Coffee Bar. The staff are personable & helpful, the hotel is spotless & our room was spacious, comfortable & clean

We stayed on the second floor facing Via Dei Serpenti. Andreas helped us with our luggage up the narrow stairs & then helped us get oriented to the main sights. We weren't prepared for the early morning garbage/recycling collection but my trusty ear plugs fixed that problem. Besides, we easily traded that off to open our window, look down the street & see the Colosseum!
Another reviewer commented that the desk is not staffed often but guests are usually exploring the sites or sleeping off the exhaustion caused by walking about the ancient city. Besides that, someone was a phone call away & help was not far behind.

Do yourself a favour, check out this unassuming beauty near the heart of Ancient Rome! If you choose to stay here, try contacting the hotel directly to save third-party booking fees.

Absolutely wonderful. Quite modern and spacious rooms. Lovely, well appointed bathroom and fantastic shower. We had a triple room (queen and single) which was really like a 2 bedroom. The mattress and pillows are very firm but we were too tired to care. Bigger flat screen tv for our bed and smaller tv for the single, both having Foxtel access. Glass fronted fridge held our munchies / extra drinks bought from excellent deli down the road.
Extremely quiet! No road or outdoor noise whatsoever. The staff were very friendly, we arrived early very jetlagged and were offered a seat and a reviving espresso while we waited in the courtyard. The recommendations on where to eat, how to get there were excellent. Loved the location, easy to get to everything but out of the tourist hubbub. Lots of locals used the cafes, restaurants and delis but we did not have a problem with language. Great gelato down the road. Laundromat and modern internet cafe nearby.
Contrary to a previous poster, we were not pressured at all to use the taxi service but were given options of the best way to get to the station.
Would love to return, we thought it was excellent value.

I agree with the other posts re the location. The collesium and roman forum are a 10 min walk down the street. The metro station is about 15 min walk. There are many nice cafes for breakfast and small, local restaurants for supper. The desk person recomendations were very enjoyable. I took the leonardo express from the airport to the main rail station, the stazione termini (11 euro). you can buy a roma pass at the station info desk that includes a three day pass on the bus and metro system. The taxi to the hotel was 10 euro, but I could have taken the via natione bus in front of the station to via del serpenti, where the hotel is, for free with the pass. There is no sign on the hotel entrance, look for 97. The room was modern, clean and quiet at night. i would stay again here
