This is a "bad news/GREAT NEWS" review. First the bad news; as indicated in a previous review, Hotel Sunset is more of a "Guest House" than a full-services hotel. There's no elevator, no lobby to speak of, very little of the North American-style 24 hour services and, depending where your room is situated, early morning traffic can be a factor. The GREAT NEWS? A GREAT LOCATION, close to the ancient sections of Rome. (10 minutes to the Colosseum & Forum - other sites branch out from there) & close to the Metro (10-15 minutes depending on the line selected.) The Gelato shop just down the street is incredible as is the nearby Coffee Bar. The staff are personable & helpful, the hotel is spotless & our room was spacious, comfortable & clean
We stayed on the second floor facing Via Dei Serpenti. Andreas helped us with our luggage up the narrow stairs & then helped us get oriented to the main sights. We weren't prepared for the early morning garbage/recycling collection but my trusty ear plugs fixed that problem. Besides, we easily traded that off to open our window, look down the street & see the Colosseum!
Another reviewer commented that the desk is not staffed often but guests are usually exploring the sites or sleeping off the exhaustion caused by walking about the ancient city. Besides that, someone was a phone call away & help was not far behind.
Do yourself a favour, check out this unassuming beauty near the heart of Ancient Rome! If you choose to stay here, try contacting the hotel directly to save third-party booking fees.
