We booked this hotel even after reading the reviews and knowing it was far away from the city center. Due to budget constraints, the other hotels considered were at the same distance from the city center but didn't look as new and modern as Black Hotel did. But we chose it nevertheless.

Unlike previous reviews, we found the staff to be relentless and talkative in every single occasion we needed them.
- Getting the airport phone number and calling them every now and then to give us updates about our missing luggage. Calling us on our mobile (international call, remember) to tell us the luggage had just arrived
- Calling for taxis and booking restaurants
- Help us finding our way to the city center and numerous roman landmarks using the very complex transport system

Breakfast was par to most of the hotels we've seen in the category. Can't speak about the meals, because we had none at the restaurant. Judging by the affluence, i'd say it's pretty popular.

The rooms were a little smaller than we'd expect, but nothing claustrophobic. Good fluffy pillows and a very clean and distinct look all around. Very very good taste in decoration, lighting and overall look. In my personal oppinion, the variety of foreign TV channels should be bigger (most italian, bbc world, a spanish, a french and a german channel).

Sure getting out of the hotel to the city center and back is a nightmare and takes a long time. Watch out for bus timetables, which can be tricky. There is no 274 (which ends at the Cipro/Vatican Museum Metro station) at weekends and holidays so take one that gets by a Metro station. And if you ever use a taxi to get back to the hotel, it's probable that they don't know where the Black Hotel is. In this case, just tell them it's close to the Midas Hotel (don't you dare to call it Jolly Hotel Midas, because there are a hundred Jolly hotels around and they'll get even more confused). It'll help.

The hotel looked great on the website - very modern, futeristic, clean with a swimming pool. No directions on the website of how to get there however. It is quite far out of Rome - around 10 - 20 euros to Vatican city for instance. The tube only goes so far and then you have to get a cab, and around 2km to the nearest tube along a dangerous route to walk. Not especailly ideal if you want to go back to the hotel for a rest during the day. They do have a shuttle bus which they don't advertise, but gets booked up, only three a day and only one way.
The hotel was lovely - rooms very clean, nice beds and bathroom. The hotel receptionsionist was very rude however - everything too much trouble - including calling a cab which made my husband late for a meeting. Food was great however and had a fab meal in the restaurant.
Didn't get a chance to try out the swimming pool as was raining when we were there.

The hotel is at least an hour to the centre, by various means of transport unlike what internet descriptions say.
They do provide a shuttle service to Cornelia 3 times a day but only for the journey in. You have to make your own way back by metro line A, which shuts at 9pm and number 246 or 247 bus which is subject to pickpockets.
The hotel is faultless staff are very obliging and the breakfast was great considering continental. Can not comment on meals but the restaurant was always busy.
The pool is wonderful a haven from the scorching sun.
There is not many bars or restaurants but Sunset Hill a campsite across the mainroad allows entry aslong as you leave by 11pm, plus they do great pizza for the journey home. The only problem is you have climb the embankment as the Panorama gates to the supermarket shut at 9.30pm.
The only gripe is the early alarm call roughly 6.45am onwards laundry trolleys seem to be pushed along the concret/marble floor, do not accept room 106 unless you like the alarm call!
Overall great hotel just wish it was closer to the centre of Rome.

we stayed in rome last october and chose this hotel to stay at, as it said on the website it was very close to the town. We had to walk 5 mins to the bus stop then wait for the bus to take us to the local metro station, all in all it took 50-60 mins approx to get in to the center of town.
the actual hotel was very modern and clean. we did not eat in the restaurant as we preferred to go to the local pizzarias, etc, however the restaurant looked very busy.
i would reccomend this hotel if you want to stay somewhere quiet as it is a fair walk to any bars or cafes etc

[We have just returned from 2 weeks Italy where we went all over and this was the one hotel we booked. We were really looking forward to this one, the promised luxury on the website seemed to good to be true... and it was.
It started with wanting to go for a dip... there is currently only a concrete bassin in the back garden and no decking is present. Looked a lot better on the website...it was an actual pool. Upon talking to the deskstaff they offered us a room in another close by hotel with pool but the extra 40 Euros a night would be at our expense... so we stayed.
This hotel is not a mere few minutes away from Vatican city, as advertised; it will take you an hour by public transport and a taxi will cost you about 30 Euros. One way.
Pay per view movies are dubbed in Italian and, breakfast never seemed to have any fresh bread.
If you go for a polished veneer look and you do not mind being away out of the center it is a good deal at the price we got it,120Euro. You are still staying in Rome. They got the design right of the place but that is unfortunately all. To top it all off; they messed up our bill and charged our credit card, once we left the hotel; with an extra 400 Euros!!!! Our current bill with this place stands at over 700 Euros for a 3 night stay. we now have the pleasure of dealing with the bank to sort this one out!!!
All in all, not a very good experience.
