Hotel Golden is right by the Villa Borghese, in a really beautiful and charming neighborhood. I loved the location because it didn't feel overwhelmed by tourists, but was only a ten minute walk from the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps. The neighborhood actually managed to make Rome feel like a small, comfortable city for the few days we were there on this trip.
Oh, and excellent wifi. And blessedly thick windows...the considerable street noise was totally shut out.
The hotel feels very safe...you have to buzz up and identify yourself to be let in, and the concierge keeps your keys at the desk for you. The service is excellent. The proprietor of the hotel gave us a great map and outlined an easy route to take us past all of the sights in Rome, and circled a few good restaurants in the neighborhood as well. Also, I got sick while I was there, and he recommended a nearby clinic and was very helpful and concerned. He also arranged a car service to the airport for us.
The room was small but really nicely done, with a comfortable bed and linens, nice tiled floors, and a clean and newly renovated bathroom. Everything seemed recently renovated, modern, and spotless. Almost all of the guests were American, it seemed, and I could see why. It wasn't exactly a quaint, historic inn, but was instead a very clean and modern and comfortable hotel, which is sometimes exactly what you need in an overwhelming city like Rome!
