“A Five Star 2-Star”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2013

At the time of writing (November 2013) this is rated 12th best hotel in Rome (out of 1272 listed on Tripadvisor) despite it being only a 2-Star hotel and much of the competition being 4 and 5-Star.
I was interested to see how they'd achieved that.
Basically, this is a small family-owned, budget-priced hotel where the family members take turns on reception etc and are without exception friendly and helpful, full of recommendations regarding transport and restaurants etc.
The hotel is set in a quiet backstreet near the Via Veneto and the Gardens & Villa Borghese.
It's 15 minutes walk to Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain and rail terminal. About 30 to the Colosseum.
Our (Superior) room was spacious and well-appointed. Breakfast is served in a tiny room but was very good quality. Fruit salad, freshly cooked omelettes and bacon, croissants - much better than the average European breakfast.
But overall it is the people that make this a hotel one would want to return to and I can't wait.

We had a very good time in the hotel. The hotel was located central. Very close to park villa borghese, which is a lovely place to be, in the middel of the busy Rome. Everybody in the hotel was very friendly and helpfull. We were very surprised because we ha've got a very Nice upgrade! We Will absolutely comeback with our children.

Hotel Golden is my "home away from home" when visiting Rome. The staff is very friendly and extremely helpful, and make each stay a great experience. The location near Via Veneto is very good, with just a few minutes walk to the Metro, Villa Borghese and the Spanish Steps. Giuseppe and Marco always have recommendations for good restaurants, or for the best way to get to the tourist sites. The hotel rooms are quiet, the beds comfortable, and the breakfast is consistently high quality and delicious.

After travelling for a month throughout Italy it was a delight to find this family owned and operated small hotel in Rome. It is very well located and good value for money. But more than that Giuseppe and other family members went out of their way to make our stay just that much more enjoyable.

Hotel Golden is located on the first floor. Ring the door bell for entry and your bags will be carried up to the first floor in a quaint, 100 year old elevator. Our room was excellent. At breakfast time don't forget to sample some of the home made delights. Also, the dining area is very compact so you will meet other travelers, from all over the world, all keen to share their travel experiences.

Giuseppe gave us some very handy tips for exploring Rome, best buses to take, good eating, suggested walks and so on.

When booking Hotel Golden, keep in mind it is a family run hotel, what Aussies like us would call 'fair dinkum'. An absolute delightful stay.

We spent 4 nights here after a 10 day cruise. The limo pickup was at Civitevecchia as planned by the hotel. Upon arrival at the hotel, Marco was at the door moving our 4 suitcases into the elevator manned by Teresa up to the first floor and into their reception area - all seamlessly, silently and very professionally. Such a wonderful first impression! So organized and thoughtful! We had wanted to get opening night tickets to Turandot and Giuseppe so very kindly bought the tickets at our behalf - such an excellent personalised service from a home run hotel. Which also serves an amazing breakfast every morning prepared by Mamma & her helper - I loved the lemon centred little fried cakes & the assorted cookies & everything else..... even after stuffing ourselves on the cruise! The room was nice and cosy and promptly made when we left for the day. They also made 2 excellent restaurant recommendation nearby - San Marco & Ai Fieroni on Via Sardegna (the best deconstructed tiramisu). The hotel is along a quiet street with the Tabachi shop nearby, also the bus stop, Harry's Bar, the deli downstairs, and of course the Borghese Gardens across the main road. A short 15 min amble towards the Spanish Steps and loads of distractions along the way. Lovely quiet Home Away from Home! Thank you to the Family for making our stay very memorable! And we shall return......

We stayed here for three nights early November, and we picked this hotel based on the excellent reviews on Tripadvisor. We must say that this hotel deserves all the praise it gets. We had taken a small double and a single room, and it suited our needs well. We reached around 9 am and Guiseppe was kind enough to give us the single room immediately and said he would make available the double room at the earliest, which he did. Guiseppe took care to explain all the important landmarks and the way to reach them on the map. He also reserved tickets for the Villa Borghese and also helped us with booking our train tickets to Florence online. Guiseppe also gave us tips on places to eat in the neighbourhood, and his take was proved right when we went to eat there. Breakfast was great and every request of ours was met with a smile. A great place to stay when one visits Rome.

We stayed here for 5 nights following great Tripadvisor feedback. It is worthy praise. The hotel is well located, a 10 minute walk from the Spanish Steps and right next to a lovely park with a great viewpoint. Although we were in a smaller room, it was adequate for our needs. Our room was comfortable and clean and had a small fridge. The breakfast was great and you could fill up as much as you wanted!
The staff were wonderful and Giuseppe and Marco spoke excellent English. We asked for several restaurant recommendations and these were some of the best dining experiences we had.
We would both happily stay here on our return (hopefully soon!).

Room Tip: If you can secure a larger room then great. We were literally awake in our small room for no more...
