“Even better than I expected”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2013

I have read a lot of glowing reviews about Arco dei Tolomei here in Tripadvisor and I can assure you that they're all very well earned.

The guesthouse is a lovely place to stay even for a longer stay. Marco and all the other staff will take really good care for you. It feels almost as you were visiting an old friend abroad.

The location is great. It is easily within a 30 minute walking distance from most major sights (Vatican, Colosseum, Fontana di Trevi, Piazza Navona etc...) and there are many bus routes and a tram line very close to it. The neighbourhood is quiet but still there are many excellent restaurants just around the corner and Marco will tell you all the right ones.

We had great time there and we will not consider any other option for accommodation when the next trip to Rome comes !

Husband and I just spent 10 days in Rome, and Arco was the perfect home base for us. This was our first break without children in over 20 years, and Marco and family went out of their way to make sure every day was fabulous. At breakfast Marco would go over our plans with us, make suggestions, and give us a map to make sure we would get the most out of our day. Our room was lovely, overlooking the alleyways of Trastevere, and the location was perfect for walking to all of old Rome. Trastevere is so centrally located that it is an easy (and beautiful) walk to the Colosseum, Pantheon, the Vatican, Testacchio, etc. One of our best holidays ever! Thanks Marco and Gianna!! The location, warm hospitality of Marco , his family, and everyone at Arco dei Tolomei, along with the personal help and advice with sightseeing and dining made the trip for me, and my family, a stressless transition from America. Marco's care with recommendations made our limited time so well spent . Breakfast was not only relaxing , but also informative, along with a lovely variety of homemade jams, and cake . Also, there were breads, juices, cereals and yogurts. Something for everyone. Sleeping was comfortable, and the charming location was off the bustle of the main roads. It's being so central in location made all things available by foot, taxi or bus. Rome is so very wonderful , but our choice to stay at Arco dei Tomomei put it up over the top.

Room Tip: All seemed fine

Over Christmas, my mother and brother stayed at the Arco dei Tolomei, while my husband and I stayed in a separate B&B downstairs in the same building. We all had delicious breakfasts together at the Arco dei Tolomei and had the pleasure of interacting with our hosts, Marco and Gianna, as well as their wonderful staff. The atmosphere at the Arco dei Tolomei was very comfortable (my mother and brother loved their sizable and well-appointed rooms). However, what truly made being there special was Marco’s warm, friendly personality and extremely helpful advice regarding local wonderful restaurants and sites to see that were off the tourist path. Marco’s advice at Christmas time, when the number of open restaurants can be limited, was particularly valuable. Overall, we would all highly recommend the Arco dei Tolomei as an outstanding and affordable place to stay and we will certainly be back when in Rome again.

This hidden gem is well-located in the neighborhood of Trastevere, just a block from the river. You feel as though you are staying in a private home...it is comfortable, clean, and inviting. There is a communal breakfast offered every morning, and Marco is always present to graciously help travelers refine their daily 'routes', make reservations, or suggest restaurants.
I would recommend this place to travelers who want to connect with people.

Molto Grazie Marco. Gianna, and Regina.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this lovely B&B. Everything is pretty much covered in other reviews; yes, Arco dei Tolomei is truly clean, comfortable, lovingly maintained, and Marco is an excellent host. We very much enjoyed the cheerfulness and care we received from Joseline and loved meeting little Jerusha too. We spent five nights at the B&B and walked out each morning all over Rome following a loose itinerary, our noses, and great tips from Marco. Rome is large, but Trastevere is within walking distance of many of the major sites and also quite beautiful and interesting itself. Breakfast time was so nice, we could exchange experiences and ideas with other guests while enjoying our delicious breakfast! We usually ate supper at nearby restaurants, some of the best we found in Rome, and nice after a long day sight-seeing. Very much recommended!

Room Tip: Our room was a little noisy at night from some radio or tv (outside the B&B) so you might talk w...

At every breakfast (with delicious homemade cake) we had fantastic conversations with Marco, his family, staff and the other guests. A group of us even went and ate Cacio e Pepe one night. Marco has great food and sightseeing advice. Our room was comfortable and decently quiet except for the 7:30am high school students smoking before school under the arch. But it's a quiet location in a loud city. Rome doesn't seem like a place for quiet introspection. More like long dinners, loud laughing and a good time. Will be back.
