I had a great stay at Hosianum Palace in Sept 2009. The rooms were beautiful and the breakfast was lovely but the location of the hotel was by far it's greatest asset. Located in the heart of the historical district, most of Rome's key attraction were only a few minutes walk from the hotel. I would highly recommend.

Stayed here for 3 nights with a friend and loved it. Staff were friendly and full of helpful information on how to get around the city. The hotel is centrally located within easy walking distance of all the sights. My friend and I walked to everything - no public transportation needed (except to train station). Best shower we had throughout our entire Italian vacation. Very clean and a good price. We were on the 3rd floor in a room with 2 twin beds and had no noise problems at all. Would definitely stay here again!

Oct 10, 2009 | Trip type: Couples

We had a fantastic welcome upon arrival, the gentleman on reception gave us lots of advice for itinerary based on our length of stay and directed us to good locations for eating and where to go for nightlife all without us asking... not sure if the attempt at speaking Italian helped here though as we met other guests who didn't get the same advice

Our room was on the 4th floor with an annex roof. We had a double room although it was 2 singles pushed together, I personally don't see the problem with this though. The room was cosy, I wouldn't expect anything much bigger in a central position, it was big enough for the amount of time we actually spent in the room. There was a mini bar in the room but we didn't use this. We couldn't figure out the air con to adjust the temperature but this wasn't an issue with the cooler nights in October.

The bathroom was small but clean, no bath just shower - if you walk as much as we did you may want a bath to soak the muscles! We never had a problem with no hot water but did have to play around with the taps a bit to get the right temperature for a shower.

Breakfast was good, not on the roof terrace as I expected though, not sure whether this is just summer thing. There was plenty of choice, cereals, fruit and fruit salad, pastries, toast, yogurts, meats and cheeses; the American bit consisted of scrambled eggs prosciutto ham cooked like bacon and hot dog style sausages.

The location is great, we walked everywhere and the furthest was the Vatican which took us about 30 minutes, the pantheon about 5-10 minutes, the forum and Colosseum about 5-10 minutes, Trevi about 15 minutes and Trastevere for eating about 5-10 minutes (the best restaurant we ate in was Ponentino in Piazza del Drago - highly recommended!) For a central hotel we had no problem with street noise.

A word of advice on taxis – From the airport they often drop you off saying your hotel is just on the side street – we had a 10 minute walk from where we got dropped off!! The driver was being lazy and didn’t want to go around the 1 way system!!
To the airport if you ask your hotel for a taxi you will not get an official white cab with the fixed fee, it is usual that you will get a merc that charges about €50 (if you challenge this you should get it cheaper)

The Hosianum Palace is in a great location for seeing the major sights in Rome. What's more important is the hotel is a short walk (2 blocks) to the tram stop at Largo Arenula. Using the tram and regional train are much less expensive than a train to Termini and a Taxi to the hotel.
How to travel from FCO to Hosianum Palace the inexpensive way:
Upon arriving at FCO you can take the regional train in the direction of Fara Sabina. The regional train is nicer and less expensive than the Leonardo Express. (Regional train is 5,50 Euros & Leonardo Express is 11,00 Euros). The regional train is about 5 stops to Trastevere Train Station, exit at Trastevere Train Station. Leave the station and walk towards the main road, Viale Di Trastevere, you will see the tram stop just to your left on the main road. Take the tram in the direction of Arenula and stay on the tram until the service ends at Largo Arenula. From Largo Arenula walk a few blocks on the road V.D. Botteghe Oscure toward the Vittorio Emanuele Monument. You will reach the V. D. Polacchi, make a right on to Polacchi and the Hosianum Palace will be on your right.

This was our first trip to Rome and the Hosanium Palace is a perfect location for buses and walking. The staff were very friendly and helpful, but not intrusive. The room was clean, comfortable and well cooled to cope with the heat of August. Each day we looked forward to having breakfast on the roof - look out for the small bird

Bus 64 to the Vatican ran from the area Sacra di Largo Argentina which is a 4 minute walk away. Tour buses around the city ran from the nearby Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

We would definately use the Hosanium Palace again
