I stayed here for 9 nights in early May, 2009 and would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a nice place to stay in central Rome. It is located just a block or two from the Largo Argentina area and just a few more blocks to the Pantheon. Everything is within walking distance. I had booked a single, however, I was given a triple (Room 105) on the first night. The triple was very comfortable and well appointed. The only problem was that it was almost impossible to view the television screen from the main bed without moving the desk in the other room.
On the second night I was moved to Room 106, which I think was actually a double. The room was small, but again was very nicely decorated. I was very happy to have a full size bed (two twins pushed together) as I was expecting only a twin bed. (I think this was a courtesy upgrade, for which I was very thankful). Room 106 was fine for one person, but due to its size, it could be a bit on the small side for two people.
All the rooms have flatscreen tv's (two English stations, CNN and BBC) and a mini bar. In both rooms the baths were very nice, but very small, (especially the shower stalls) but nonetheless, very servicible. The beds are firm, but that seems to be the case in all of Italy. The baths are clean and bright. The furniture carpets, wallcoverings and bedspreads also look new. The bed and bath linens were very nice.
Breakfast was good with plenty of choices including rolls, cereals, pastries, scrambled eggs etc. The breakfast meats were a bit strange: a grilled ham that didn't have much taste, and some small wieners. But again, I think that's Italy. Good coffee and juices. Since it was early in the season, the breakfast buffet was in the basement dining room rather than on the roof garden.
The roof garden is very nice also. Cocktails are served there every evening, but you are welcome even if you don't want a drink. The hotel has WiFi through out, however, I had problems with my signal since my Verizon/Vodaphone device does not have WiFi and the 3G signal was very poor on the first floor so I spent a lot of time on the roof with calls and e-mails. (Minus one for Verizon).
The staff was always very friendly and accomodating. They helped me understand the bus system and how to go the main train station to buy tickets for a day trip to Naples and Pompeii. Everyone on staff was an absolute delight to deal with. The hotel is very well maintained and looks very new. It is on a sidestreet and was nice and quite. I liked this place very much!
One slight word of caution: The internet pictures show a lobby area with big couches in front of a fireplace, and a beautiful atrium. Neither of these areas exist as far as the hotel guest is concerned. I think they are part of the Convent which occupies the rest of the building. My room looked out on a dark airshaft with two derelict buildings adjoining. The owner really needs to remove these pictures from the website. In addition, I would avoid a room on the 4th floor since the building has sloping roofs and gable windows which really cut into the already small rooms.
Otherwise, I heartily recommend the Hosianum Palace. I have previously stayed at the Albergo del Senato, which is a wonderful hotel right next to the Pantheon, but since I was travelling alone, I had to cut costs. The Hosianum was perfect for this trip. It may not be right on a pretty square or have silk coverings on its walls, but it rated very well for my purposes during this trip.
