I booked my accommodation at Arena House on the recommendations of Lonely Planets guide to Rome and the strength of the many glowing reviews on Trip Advisor. I was a little sceptical that Arena House would live up to such outstanding appraisals, however I was pleasantly surprised and impressed by both the service and standard of accommodation. I stayed here for 4 nights in May 2008 and when I was fortunate enough to make a return weekend visit to Rome in December 2008, booked my stay here without hesitation.
As I was traveling alone and on both occasions and booked single rooms, it seemed luxurious to be accommodated in spacious rooms with a double bed and my own beautifully clean bathroom. The rooms are well equipped with a computer with free internet access, wardrobes, drawers, a television and a small fridge and the bathrooms are provided with soaps, shampoos, towels and a hair dryer. Compared to what’s offered in other large European cities this is great value, really comfortable, quiet and also situated in a safe part of Rome.
Arena House is well located near the Colloseum so it’s easy to access the metro and bus services to get around the city. It’s also worth noting that if your time in Rome is limited you can get on any of the open-top tour bus at the Colloseum, explore the main tourist trail and the bus will drop you back to the Colloseum a couple of hours later. There are also great facilities within a short walking distance of the guesthouse and this is worth bearing in mind if the weather gets the better of you and you want to avoid traipsing around the city. There are a whole host of great restaurants, wine bars and pubs located nearby. There are also many historic sights around the area and a couple of amazing churches worth visiting. If you’re on a budget or just tired of eating out there’s also a supermarket nearby and a great park ideal for picnicking.
Barbara and Vincent are the most genuinely welcoming hosts. They seem to do their utmost to ensure their guests have an enjoyable and comfortable stay in Rome and their hospitality has to be appreciated. Vincent has a wealth of knowledge about the city and is more than obliging to provide help and reliable information with your travel plans.
If you're travelling to Rome I would definitely recommend staying at Arena House - it's good value, clean, comfortable, welcoming and idealy located.
