My husband and I visited Rome last week and stayed in the Golden Tulip Hotel. Never again! On arriving in Rome we followed the instructions for getting to the hotel via the train and metro only to find ourselves in a most undesirable location trying to find a taxi or bus to take us to the hotel. We wandered around aimlessly for around an hour (suitcases in tow) until we eventually found a taxi rank which took us to the hotel. The hotel staff were not very friendly, the rooms were ok, but this was no 4 star hotel. The rooms werent cleaned particularly well and the staff were not at all helpful or friendly. The buffet breakfast was very basic and there always seemed to be hardly anything left.

Day 2 we were given instructions that there was a bus outside the hotel that would take us to the nearest metro station which turned out to be around a 15 minute ride. (I think the hotel state on their website that the nearest metro is around 0.8km which we thought we could easily walk (but not in that district). Then you have a metro ride to wherever you were going in the City. The last bus back to the hotel at night was at 11pm so this curtailed our evenings in Rome as we had to leave around 9pm to make our way back to the hotel.

Overall, the hotel was basic, not in a good location and we would not recommend this hotel to anyone considering a trip to Rome. Get a hotel in the city centre even if you have to pay that bit more!

We had booked our room and were travelling with two children - one 8 months old and the other 4.5 years old. We booked this specific hotel as it stated it had a bath and not just a shower. On receiving our room we got a room with a standing shower only. We went to the front desk and requested a room with a bath as it is easier to give a bath to the young children but they said no and would want us to pay another 30.00 euro per night for it. We did not want a bigger room as the size was fine but just wanted a room with a bath instead of a shower but they refused.
We booked our hotel shuttle for 12:30 and returning at 7:00 pm from the Cornelia station. We got to the station and on our return we got back at 6:40 pm thinking the shuttle will be there at 7:00 pm but no. We waited till 7:25pm when we finally called the hotel and they said the shuttle should be there in the next 5 minutes. The shuttle came at 7:40pm and the driver mentioned that as soon as we called he left to pick us up. We approached the hotel receptionist and the guy was very rude and completely denied that the shuttle was late but stated it was due to traffic. We were in the hotel for 6 days and it does not take the shuttle to cornelia for 45 minutes. He said it takes this much time and we told him we called twice (which we did using our roaming charges) and refused to admit that they sent the shuttle when we first called them. We asked to talk to the manager but there was no manager there. The manager was a no show for the entire 6 days.
The only thing good about this hotel is the breakfast staff - they were nice and treated you good. This hotel is not a 4 star hotel. They had bed bugs as well. The air conditioning is only turned on when you call the receptionist each time. One of the elevator was stuck for the entire day. Our shower in the room was broken and when requested to either have it fixed or provide us with a different room - nothing happened. We had to wait till the next day to get this fixed.
It is ok to stay in this hotel if you are single and do not mind whatever is given to you - just don't request or complain to the front desk as they just like to do nothing and just state that they love their job.
The cost to use the swimming pool is 5 euro per person and it closes at 7 pm. A very bad experience and the management or the receptionist did not do anything to make it a pleasant stay for us. This was our first time staying at a Golden Tulip and it was the worst experience. We have visited our european countries and know the difference of what we are entitled but here it was to deaf ears.

The day we decide to eat in the resturant the Pizza guy was not there and thus had to feed my children garnola bars for dinner as the menu is not kid friendly.

The front staff did not have any knowledge of the different monuments, museum or weather information. I would not recommend anyone to this hotel due to their unfreindliness!

Me and my girlfriend were advised to get the metro to Cornelia however upon arriving there we were completely lost - it was certainly not the 0.8km from the station as detailed on Lastminute.com more like 2.0km and even the taxi drivers struggled to know where it was (after we found a taxi driver!).
There was one extremely rude lady receptionist whom barked out several times that she was trying to work whilst on the telephone when we stood talking to a fellow American tourist at the reception area. However there was an extremely nice and professional waiter/concierge.
On our final day of a 3-day stay we mastered the transport system but the bus service to and from the hotel to the metro were unpredictable at best.
The lifts seem to run all night and were noisy that coupled with the loud hotel room entry key door buzzer made sure you had to either take your ear plugs or have plenty of wine before getting off to bed!
Having said that we enjoyed the food & wine from the restaurant.

I came to Rome to experience the amazing historical city, I was truly impressed by the history and culture of that city. However, the hotel that I stayed at has much to be desired.

The rooms are comfortable and adequate and the free cold continental breakfast is what one would expect (general breads, no warm dishes, limited selection of fruits if any, and generous number of jams/ spreads in plastic containers).

I have been to many hotels in my working career, and in all honestly, i was shocked by the hotel staff's indiference and general lack of honesty in dealing with their clients.

I had left my suit by mistake in my room, upon arriving back in my home country I contacted them. They let me know that they had found the suit and they had moved it to their offices. I requested that they please send me the suit to my address and offered to pay for all expenses incurred. They flatly refused to assist in any way, insisting that I should organise this myself and pay for it myself. (Most hotels send customer's left items to them free of charge). After much hangling with other Italian courier companies, I came to the conculsion that I could not do it myself and would need their help.

I escalated this to Golden Tulip's Global Customer Service (which was not any better at all). To cut a long story short, when I tried to contact Bellambriana again, they stated that the suit was not there any more (it was apparently stolen). Since then they have been very difficult to get hold of, sometimes refusing to answer my calls, or making excuses to deal with me (Stating that they cannot speak)

PLEASE AVOID for your sanity!!

My wife and I were booked in to this hotel after the one we chose through Expedia closed suddenly. As we had little notice we accepted it. We have stayed at Golden Tulip hotels in Venice and Amsterdam and were very happy with those, but this one needs sorting out. As at least one other reviewer wrote the best feature was a restaurant staffer named Johnny - pleasant, courteous and always helpful. The restaurant was excellent - good food and staff who went out of their way to provide good service, on one late night producing excellent meals fast even though they were about to close.

The front desk staff were not. They were offhand, bordering on rudeness and only occasionally welcoming. The worst were incompetent. The management of this part of the hotel was completely lacking. Problems with room heating, computer access and the booking of the free minibus to the Metro station were frequent. We booked places on the minibus four times - it was generally good, but twice ran fifteen minutes late and on the fourth occasion left (on time) as we got to the lobby - the drivers never checked the room numbers of guests who booked - he just went. We obtained a taxi via the desk - it arrived quickly but there was no hint of apology or recompense from the desk staff, or suggestion that the minibus, on its return, would take us in to the station. The girl had no idea of a helpful response.

The hotel is well out of the city in an area devoid of eating places and nearby transport - hence the minibus service to Cornelia Metro station. We arrived at 3pm on the Sunday to find there was no food available and three different times were given for the restaurant to open - the dreadful young lady on duty (she who later failed to apologise for the missed minibus) clearly didn't know the correct time and equally clearly couldn't care less. The breakfasts were good, if mainly carbohydate-based - tinned fuit and yoghourts were provided - but tables were being serviced poorly and some cutlery needed to be raided from wherever it could be found.

The rooms were smart and clean and well serviced, though they had small problems of damage and our first room had defective air conditioning so we moved to another.

I teach tourism management at university level: apart from Johnny and his fellow restaurant staff this hotel proves that Golden Tulips can, in fact, tarnish badly.
