My husband and I visited Rome last week and stayed in the Golden Tulip Hotel. Never again! On arriving in Rome we followed the instructions for getting to the hotel via the train and metro only to find ourselves in a most undesirable location trying to find a taxi or bus to take us to the hotel. We wandered around aimlessly for around an hour (suitcases in tow) until we eventually found a taxi rank which took us to the hotel. The hotel staff were not very friendly, the rooms were ok, but this was no 4 star hotel. The rooms werent cleaned particularly well and the staff were not at all helpful or friendly. The buffet breakfast was very basic and there always seemed to be hardly anything left.
Day 2 we were given instructions that there was a bus outside the hotel that would take us to the nearest metro station which turned out to be around a 15 minute ride. (I think the hotel state on their website that the nearest metro is around 0.8km which we thought we could easily walk (but not in that district). Then you have a metro ride to wherever you were going in the City. The last bus back to the hotel at night was at 11pm so this curtailed our evenings in Rome as we had to leave around 9pm to make our way back to the hotel.
Overall, the hotel was basic, not in a good location and we would not recommend this hotel to anyone considering a trip to Rome. Get a hotel in the city centre even if you have to pay that bit more!
