I came to Rome to experience the amazing historical city, I was truly impressed by the history and culture of that city. However, the hotel that I stayed at has much to be desired.

The rooms are comfortable and adequate and the free cold continental breakfast is what one would expect (general breads, no warm dishes, limited selection of fruits if any, and generous number of jams/ spreads in plastic containers).

I have been to many hotels in my working career, and in all honestly, i was shocked by the hotel staff's indiference and general lack of honesty in dealing with their clients.

I had left my suit by mistake in my room, upon arriving back in my home country I contacted them. They let me know that they had found the suit and they had moved it to their offices. I requested that they please send me the suit to my address and offered to pay for all expenses incurred. They flatly refused to assist in any way, insisting that I should organise this myself and pay for it myself. (Most hotels send customer's left items to them free of charge). After much hangling with other Italian courier companies, I came to the conculsion that I could not do it myself and would need their help.

I escalated this to Golden Tulip's Global Customer Service (which was not any better at all). To cut a long story short, when I tried to contact Bellambriana again, they stated that the suit was not there any more (it was apparently stolen). Since then they have been very difficult to get hold of, sometimes refusing to answer my calls, or making excuses to deal with me (Stating that they cannot speak)

PLEASE AVOID for your sanity!!

My wife and I were booked in to this hotel after the one we chose through Expedia closed suddenly. As we had little notice we accepted it. We have stayed at Golden Tulip hotels in Venice and Amsterdam and were very happy with those, but this one needs sorting out. As at least one other reviewer wrote the best feature was a restaurant staffer named Johnny - pleasant, courteous and always helpful. The restaurant was excellent - good food and staff who went out of their way to provide good service, on one late night producing excellent meals fast even though they were about to close.

The front desk staff were not. They were offhand, bordering on rudeness and only occasionally welcoming. The worst were incompetent. The management of this part of the hotel was completely lacking. Problems with room heating, computer access and the booking of the free minibus to the Metro station were frequent. We booked places on the minibus four times - it was generally good, but twice ran fifteen minutes late and on the fourth occasion left (on time) as we got to the lobby - the drivers never checked the room numbers of guests who booked - he just went. We obtained a taxi via the desk - it arrived quickly but there was no hint of apology or recompense from the desk staff, or suggestion that the minibus, on its return, would take us in to the station. The girl had no idea of a helpful response.

The hotel is well out of the city in an area devoid of eating places and nearby transport - hence the minibus service to Cornelia Metro station. We arrived at 3pm on the Sunday to find there was no food available and three different times were given for the restaurant to open - the dreadful young lady on duty (she who later failed to apologise for the missed minibus) clearly didn't know the correct time and equally clearly couldn't care less. The breakfasts were good, if mainly carbohydate-based - tinned fuit and yoghourts were provided - but tables were being serviced poorly and some cutlery needed to be raided from wherever it could be found.

The rooms were smart and clean and well serviced, though they had small problems of damage and our first room had defective air conditioning so we moved to another.

I teach tourism management at university level: apart from Johnny and his fellow restaurant staff this hotel proves that Golden Tulips can, in fact, tarnish badly.

reading the other reviews I almost feel like I stayed at a different hotel. My experience at the golden tulip Bellambriana was very enjoyable. First of all I had just come from traveling in eastern Europe and to get to my room and see the enormous size of my kind size bed was only the beginning! The staff were very friendly and helpful, I don't speak Italian really, but everyone seemed to get by with English. They gave me a map and explained how I could get to the city, where was good for shopping, eating etc. The city center is only a short bus or metro ride away and the public transportation in Rome is very clean and easily accessible. The bus stop is literally right outside the hotel entrance. There is a beautiful pool and outside area to lay under and relax. The breakfast was good, what you would expect, cereals, toast, cold cuts and fresh espresso. Overall this hotel helped my experience in Rome be a wonderful one that I will never forget. I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a nice place to stay slightly outside of the city bustle.

When we arrived, seeing the burned out car in the parking lot was scary. The rude girl at the desk assured us that the car had been there for a year, for whatever that's worth. She also told us the restaurant on premise was open, We went right down and it was closed. However a cool guy named Johnny got us some mozzerella, bread and prosciutto and some wine. Johnny was the best thing about this hotel. The rude girl also told us the bus to get there runs 24 hours a day. When we were trying to get back from the Coliseum at midnight, we found out that she was wrong. The cab cost us 20 euros. The complimentary toothpaste tubes were all dried out. I tried to get a new one and the rude girl informed me that they are all dried out. We put a twenty euro deposit down for a keyboard to check e-mails. There is a cost of course on top of the keyboard deposit and no instructions come with the keyboard. I called to the desk, three visits later from the bellhops and seven euros worth of tipping and none of them could make it work. We called to tell them that the shower leaks and water was all over the bathroom floor. They said that's OK, they know. The Turkish Baths were not open supposedly. Breakfast was very good.
Do not stay here unless you get a killer deal. It was not worth the $360 we paid for a Saturday and a Sunday.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights and it was more than enough, We couldn't wait to get out of there. The staff are not a bit helpful, especially at the reception desk, very rude and not a bit polite.REceptionist couldn't recommend a single restaurant aprt from their own to dine at & she also refused to give us change for the bus. they do have a shuttle bus but it only takes 8 people at a time and you have to book it in advance. It stops at 6.30pm and doesnt' run on saturdays!
The walls in our room were all dirty and looked as if they hadn't been painted in a while.
As for the location, it is really far from the city and in a run-down area. You have to get a train and a bus and its not a safe area so you could not go for a walk in the area. There was a burnt out car on the road outside the hotel.
The restaurant food is not very nice, I had steak fillet but it was just a lump of fatty meat served with 5 french fries and the fries alone were €8.00!
I booked this hotel because it looked nice on the internet, it was cheap and it was suppose to be in the vatican area. Would definately not return there even if there was no charge!!

  • Liked — the elevator buttons were very fancy!
  • Disliked — almost everythin, bad experience overall.
