I was very hesitant about booking with the Blue Rose B&B with the reviews I had read here on Trip Advisor, but I was willing to take the chance because we were a group of 6 young adults who aren't picky. We were greeted by Marco the owner, who didn't speak much English at all, but still very nice and accommodating. Prior to the booking and arrival, we had exchanged many emails and he was very prompt and informative in answering my many questions.
We rented out 1 bedroom which had a queen size bed and 2 singles and another bedroom that had a queen size bed. We had 1 bathroom to share between us which was nice. The beds were comfortable and clean. On our third day of our stay the cleaning lady came to clean our sheets and replace the towels which was unexpected and great. I had no complaints about the rooms as I slept perfectly fine and so did my friends.
The bathroom had all the necessities, though the shower could use a thorough scrubbing. Endless hot water! Soap and shampoos were also provided which I thought was a nice little extra.
Kitchen had the basic utilities that are good when you want make something to eat. The breakfast is not anything extravagant as Marco, already warns. Just some toast, jams, tea, coffee etc.
A HUGE plus that we didn't expect was the free wifi Marco provides. With that we were able to communicate to our family and use Google Translate with Marco if there was a miscommunication.
I felt safe in the apartment because there was a lock to get into the building, then a lock to get into the apartment, and then a lock to get into the bedrooms. Plus there were other businesses and residents in the building as well. Also, be prepared to use the staircase as we had no access to the elevator!
The location of the Blue Rose in my opinion, was perfect. It was right by the train station (Rome Termini) which we used frequently to get to other cities such as Vatican City (Line A via metro), Florence and Venice. But not so close where you would have trouble sleeping at night as I couldn't hear the trains from the apartment.
We walked to all the Rome attractions from the Blue Rose which was great. I can see why other Trip Advisor members were uncomfortable about the neighbourhood but during my stay I never experienced any problems. No one came up to us or bothered us when we were walking night or day.
I was very happy with the Blue Rose, we paid 130 Euro a night which was a great deal in Rome. To be honest I prepared myself for the worst after reading reviews prior to, but I was pleasantly surprised. I believe that the Blue Rose is under new management and I think more Trip Advisor members should give this B and B a chance. Marco seems like a very hardworking guy and he is very friendly. My friends loved the Blue Rose and we would definitely return if we ever found ourselves in Rome again.
