Stayed for one night before going to the airport. We arrived at the address specified by the hotel, only to learn they had booked us into "Hotel Center 3", so we had to drag our luggage up stairs and find this other one. The room smelled of bleach, there was a creamy-looking substance on the carpet, along with other stains. The shower door was falling off and the paint was peeling. All the tile grout in the bathroom was moldy and the room and bathroom were painfully small. A lot of noise from traffic outside, and not a very nice looking area, with grafitti, etc.. Breakfast is served in a pretty room with a pretty view, but breakfast itself is terrible. Old pastry and instant coffee. For 100 euros a night, you MUST do better!

There are many complaints about this hotel. We happened to stay here for our honeymoon. Sure it is not the most glamorous room in all of Rome, but at the same time, when you are in Rome, there is so much to see -- the last of our focus was the condition of the room.

The hotel is a 10 minute walk from Termini. That is not bad at all, and frequently my wife and I would walk down the street at night and never had any second thoughts about our safety. I would rather be walking in that neighborhood than say some parts of Lansing where I am from. The neighborhood looks shady, but the bums keep to themselves. Not really and issue for us. And while the attractions are not right within walking distance, that is why they have the Metro, which is easily reachable by either the Termini or Manzoni stops.

The staff was not bad -- yeah I did not love the idea about paying 20 euro for the remote, but I did get that money back, and I did not really have time to watch TV. The staff was helpful when we asked them, got a taxi for us on the day we left and provided directions for us when we needed them.

As Americans sometimes we quickly forget that we are in a foreign country. We cannot get upset that people do not all speak English -- perhaps they are upset with us that we don't speak Italian -- it is their country after all. All in all, however, we were able to communicate just fine with the staff.

As for the breakfast - it is a typical Italian breakfast - simple pastries and coffee. Never really had any complaints about it, and certainly did not expect an Egg McMuffin or a Cracker Barrell breakfast. In fact, the patries were pretty good there.

To sum it up, if you are a pampered traveler this is not the place for you. It is no frills. But it is place to sleep at night, which at the end of the day, is what a hotel is for, right?

This hotel was part of a package tour of Italy with gate1travel.com

This hotel is AWFUL! Whatever you do please don't ruin your trip and stay here.

Location: This hotel is about 10 minutes walk from the main train station in Rome. I jokingly said to my husband while we pulled into Rome "oh look there's the ghetto!" Little did i know that we were staying right in the middle of it!!! There is trash all over the streets, drunken bums in doorways along with runaways hidden in open areas, graffitti on the buildings. it was really bad. Even my husband who is a tough guy did not want to be walking anywhere near the hotel at night. It is also very far away from any of the sights.

Rooms: The rooms are disgusting. The bedding was so gross i didn't want it to touch me. The bathroom stinks like mildew but appeared to have been cleaned. The television (which you need to leave a 20 euro deposit for the remote) has 20 different adult channels and one news station. I imagine this hotel must get used for other reasons if you know what i mean. We were on the first floor and didn't sleep the whole time. The noise in the hotel echos through the rooms and the heat was controlled by the front desk so you had to call them to change the temp.

Staff: The staff at this hotel are so unhelpful. Only one person spoke enough english to communicate with us. Everyone seemed to be having such a hard time with them. They are really rude and just don't seem to care at all. The only friendly person was the old lady who serves breakfast. She didn't speak a word of english but tried so hard.

Food: Breakfast was included. It was plain and chocolate pastries and toast. That's it. Coffee was from a vending type machine and was disgusting and the juice tasted like tang.

If you have already booked your trip see if you can cancel this hotel. It's that bad. It was our first time to Italy and I left hating Rome because of it. We had a better experience in Florence and Venice. It was a shame we ended our trip with this.

If you have any questions feel free to ask. I can't believe the reviews I read on this hotel were ok. I wouldn't let anyone go here with a clear conscience!

This hotel is located about 1/2 mile from the train station, so that was nice. But the part of town it's in feels unsafe (but we never ran into any problems). Lots of graffiti, lots of traffic, and lots of noise. The rooms have a nice little terrace which was nice. Tile floors. The maid service was poor, the shower was TINY and had problems draining, and it leaked so we were constantly mopping up the floor. The maid forgot to leave us towels, paper towels, soap and we would have to request it. The front desk staff all spoke English and were friendly but they weren't as friendly as other hotel front staff that we ran into on our trip. Breakfast was really inadequate--croissants, white rolls, butter and jam, coffee. I was expecting cereal at least, or maybe a piece of fruit. Oh well. We only ate their breakfast 1/4 days were were there and bought some food at a local grocery. There was a refridgerator in the room but it didn't work. There was no safe in the room but I didn't inquire as to if they had one at the front. The value was certainly good....it was the largest hotel room we stayed in during our tour of Venice, Florence, and Rome, but was the least clean, had the worst breakfast, poor location, lots of noise, and least friendly staff. Reading my review makes it appear as though I had a bad experience, but it wasn't bad...just not great. If you're used to staying in super 8s and motel 6's, you'll be fine!

The strange thing is that our room did not come with a remote control, so I called the front desk to ask for one and the overnight guy said that it would cost 20 euro deposit to get it. We didn't didn't want to pay that so didn't. The next day, we thought we'd just pay the deposit and they just gave us the remotes, saying there was no deposit. The staff member was looking for a few bucks and we would have been without recorse. Shady.

We stayed at the Hotel Center 1 during our honeymoon. The room was small, but adequate, and a good deal for the money.

But during the trip, someone got into our room (without forcing the door) and stole our two iPods. When we brought this to the attention of the staff, they were completely unsympathetic and unhelpful. One girl at the desk got on the phone with someone and laughed through most of the conversation describing how we had lost our iPods. They told us there was NOTHING the hotel could do. We come to find out later through further equally unsympathetic emails with the management that if we had filed a police report, we could have been reimbursed through the hotels insurance.

So, if you do decide to stay there, hide your belongings well, or take advantage of something they call "Safe Deposit boxes", which I didn't see, but they said were available. And don't leave ANYTHING lying around your room.
