I came here on a group trip in march and was absolutely shocked.
my parents after staying the the St regis grand in december 07 announced that Rome was a beautiful city. Not where i was staying it wasn't. On arrival we were told that the coach couldnt go any further so we were told to walk to the hotel with all our bags. with 40 people that isnt so easy. the street of the hotel is lined with rubbish bins and graffiti and loud bars. the hotel is very small and only one lift out of two worked. althougth the hotel staff were pleasent it was clear they didnt understand english very well. my room was a twin room with two camp beds forced in too. meaning the four of us were in a room for two people. It was Unbelievably cramped!! we had to climb over the beds to get to the other side. the bathroom was alright although the shower was faulty. the hotel is very noisy at night time as there are many many school trips at the hotel. it is also very noisy from the street and we often found it hard to sleep. in the morning we were in for a shock. the breakfast was appaling. there was no hot food whatsoever. the only thing we could salvage was a rock hard slice of bread and some chocolate spread. even the fruit was off date! the table with food was also dirty and messy with food lying everywhere. we had to clean the tables ourselves and we usually found ourselves taking a plastic cup of watery hot-chocolate and heading straight back up to the room. luckily we only had to stay here for two night but on my way out of the hotel i seen it said 4 star, we had been told it was a 3 star. well it defiently was lower than that.

I think the pictures I uploaded speak for themselves. I stayed with a group of 32 lately and I got to see all type of rooms on every floor. What a tragedy! Rooms are all very small and TV sets outdated. No international channels by the way when you are lucky enough to get a signal...

This is not an hotel more like a Youth Hostel. They literally locked the front door from 2 to 5 am. The breakfast is appealing (both in quantity and content). For the same price, your money goes a long way anywhere else in Europe (especially in Spain where we got to stay in REAL four stars for the SAME price!)

SHAME ON YOU LUX HOTEL!!!!!!!!!

Stay away from this place!

I was here with my family at the end of August. We chose this hotel because after spending a month in our hometown in southern Italy we wanted to see Roma and it's tourist attractions and I believe it was Nolitours that offered a series of hotels and tour packages.

The location was pretty good...a short walk to some live roma action, and we spent an entire day walking to via del corso, shopping, and walking back. the area is a bit shaddy though and i wouldn't recommend walking alone after dark.

the hotel room was TINY. thank goodness we were hardly in it unless to shower and sleep. We didnt have a bathtub just a shower. the A/C didn't work at all...we complained and they never came to fix it in the five nights we spent there.

Speaking of the staff, they are horrible. there was one guy at the front desk who was really just a doorknob. It seemed if we spoke to him in english or italian he didnt get what we were saying. the breakfast was nasty. we always just went to grab a cup of hot chocolate before we left for our tours or personal walking trips very early in the morning.

All in all, the hotel was crap. But, if you really just need a place to stay to sleep in, it's alright.

  • Liked — Pretty close to nearby attractions, and the cleanliness of our rooms

My Boyfriend & I stayed at Hotel Lux at the end of May this year.
Our first impression of the hotel was fairly decent.

The lobby is nice and the staff is friendly and makes a great attempt to speak English. We arrived with other couples on our tour group and everyone got checked in pretty much right away.

Our room however was on the main floor and was the size of my closet. I guess you don't end up spending that much time in your hotel anyway. When you walk into the room it's just your bed, 2 night stands, a desk, mini fridge (which we didn't know was there or had free drinks until the day we left), a TV, and a small safe in a cupboard beside the bed. The safe was great you could set your own combination and we used it a lot.

The bathroom was pretty small, but it had an AMAZING bathtub (no shower.. just a shower head with no curtain or anything). After walking around the city for hours it was great to have a place to soak your feet. LOL.

The rooms did not have a working A/C. This wouldn't have been a problem if we had the option of leaving our window open. Our room was located on the main floor in the back of building which faced the maintenance room. So basically our room looked into a cement room with all the water and electrical [----]. We always had to keep our windows closed and locked. There was a ladder outside our window that leads to the street so really anyone could have hopped the fence and walked into our room. Very Scary!!!

Also, the workers would come down every morning and start yelling, banging on the pipes, walking back and forth outside our window and smoking at about 7:30am. Being on the ground level we also got to enjoy being woken up by the women setting up breakfast every morning; yelling.. table moving.. etc.

We tried to change rooms but they were completely booked solid so we made the best of it. OH and just a quick note on the breakfast... it [-----------]! Breakfast consisted of warm cream on stale cereal, rock hard buns, meat left out in the air for hours getting all hard and crusty and juice. We only ate the first day and after that went out for Breakfast.

If the staffs weren’t so friendly and helpful it would have made the trip a lot worse. They pointed us in the direction of great shops and things to see.

The hotel was very central and easy to find. I would suggest staying there if you don't intend on staying in your hotel more than a couple of hours at night. Just don't stay on the ground level!!!!!!
