We recently stayed at Hotel Giardino with the recommendation from Rick Steves....and we were NOT disappointed!
First, the location cannot be beat. The hotel is within easy walking distance from ALL the major sights in Rome with the exception of the Vatican. But that was no problem at all as just around the corner from the hotel is the bus stop! So easy! Once we got off the train in Rome, we found our way very easily to Hotel Giardino with the great directions that were provided.
We stayed in two different rooms at this hotel. My sister and her boyfriend stayed in a charming interior room that had a terrace with a table outside! I stayed in a room facing the street....it was very comfortable and the bathroom was HUGE. The shower itself was small, but it is like that most hotels in Italy so it didn't bother us at all. Although our room faced the street, the windows had fabulous double panes and at night we were not disturbed at all. The beds were firm, but comfortable and there was lots of extra pillows and bedding in the closet should you need it. Also, everything was impeccably CLEAN. I am a clean/neat freak and our room met my high standards.
Prior to our stay, we had great email communication with the staff and I really want to thank them for answering our many questions. Not only were they prompt and clear in all of their responses (in English), but they were also able to advise us on other portions of our Italian vacation (for example, Katie gave me great advice on purchasing train tickets). Once we got to the hotel, we were able to check in early....before noon! (Thanks Giovanni!) That was a great relief as we had been traveling for quite a while and wanted to freshen up before we hit the sites.
The breakfast was so good in the morning. It was served in a delightful little breakfast room with decorative plates on the wall. You could also eat outside on a lovely terrace if you wanted too. Breakfast was yogurt, cereal, some breads, a delicious juice (my boyfriend could not get enough of this) along with a variety of jams and spreads. You also got cappuccino, tea, or hot chocolate. I found the breakfast to be completely sufficient to begin our day.
What I enjoyed the most about this hotel was the people and the level of comfort. There is a 24 hour reception so there was always someone to greet you when you came in, and the staff was incredibly friendly and considerate. They were so amiable and we had a lot of great conversations with them. We discussed how awesome Rick Steves was with Katie (he was there when we were there!!!) and we talked about the best place to purchase Nikes online with Giovanni. Hotel Giardino was definitely a great "home away from home" place to stay.
This hotel is not a fancy schmancy place if that's what you are looking for. It is small, quaint, with a lot of charm. It is also a great value for your money....and the location is just PERFECT for site-seeing.
I highly recommend this hotel and when we come back to Rome, we are definitely staying here again!!!! We had such a great time here. Thank you to everyone at Hotel Giardino!
