On our recent trip to Italy, we stayed in five hotels, all of which were fantastic.... except this one.

To begin, the entire hotel smells of smoke. We booked non-smoking rooms and yet each of our three rooms had not one, not two, but three ashtrays in each room.

The beds were, in fact, cots. All amenities were a joke... bathtubs/showers were tiny, A/C did not work. One room's 'balcony' was a 2-foot by 2-foot concrete patch overlooking the inner bowels of the building.

The included breakfast... well, its better not to speak of this. By far the worst food we had in Italy, and everything was pre-packaged!

And, to top everything off, each room was so dirty that we needed to bathe wearing sandals.

Please, do yourself a favor and stay elsewhere. We left this hotel after one night, and found a vacancy in another hotel for only €5 more per night.

My wife and I booked a room over the internet. Euro 145 per night we got a room with an army style bed (with a tattered bed spread) and a private bathroom that was probably 6 ft. wide by 3 ft deep, consisting of a toilet on the wall, a sink, and a shower head in the wall with a drain in the middle of the floor- Americans; think really cheap summer camp. The whole building smelled like mold and we left immediately and checked into a hotel a few doors down for less and it was extremely clean- smelled like bleach (much to my wife's pleasure after the Erdarelli). This place is the worst deal in Rome- we checked into the Hotel Piazza di Spagna on the same block for a cleaner and larger room for less money!

The hotel location is ok but the room was small and dingy. The blanket looked and smelled as if it hasn't been washed in 10 years. The desk, chair, even clothes hangers were all dusky. In sum, the hotel is overpriced and I would not recommend it to other travellers.

I and my husband stayed at the Erdarelli at the end of Nov, 2005. On the positives: 1) Room was a good size, comfy bed 2) We had a room at the back of the building which meant that the traffic noise from the street was no problem (at breakfast we could tell it was really loud), 3) the location was superb - right near the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain. We didn't once catch PT or taxis - we walked everywhere, 4) the staff were really nice and the housekeeping couldn't be faulted - excellent towels, nonintrusive, very clean etc. On the negative side: 1) the bathroom was tiny and the shower kept overflowing, 2) the decor was a bit tired (probably 60s), 3) the walls were thin, 4) the breakfast was not that substantial (though good for a snack before heading out) - we didn't buy any extras at breakfast. I noticed that the rack rate was 135 Euros, which would have been a bit expensive, but we got a discounted rate through a website.
