The Pensione Erdarelli is very well located near the Spanish Steps (Spagna), the Barberini metro stop (and the excellent fountain nearby), the Trevi fountain, and the Borghese Gardens - it's also walkable to the Vatican and the Colosseum/Forum area. Restaurants abound and gelateria are next door and across the street. For placement alone, given its price, it is good value. Yes, it is a bit faded. Yes, breakfast is sparse. Yes, the beds are *very* soft and the decor (though with some oddly excellent artwork here and there) is early 1960s (one feels there should be plastic on the sofas.) Yet that also has its charm, from the old-fashioned, tiny lift (and in Rome, that there is a lift matters) to the nooks and crannies. Everything works, and everyone is very friendly. We stayed here with our kids for three nights and would happily do so again.
