I have just arrived after a one week stay in Rome at Sunrise Hotel. As already stated the hotel is a bit far from the city center (30-40 minute bus ride) but i actually thought of it as an advantage because we also experienced real roman lifestyle: the local market in the morning with delicious cheap fruits, the local bakery and next to it the most amazing roman osteria Hostaria Menenio Agrippa. The menu has a special part just for roman cooking but also try the buffet of antipasti and the daily specials. The price for a meal for two is around 35-40 euros with drinks and desert.
As minuses: the rooms are not very big, with little space for luggage, not well sound proofed. Otherwise the hotel is very clean, the ventilation is working well, the breakfast was ok (very good croissants, not so good coffee) and the jacuzzi in the bathroom was perfect after a long day walking. You can also visit their terrace jacuzzi and have a nice view of the city. Take bus 60 to go in the center and 90 to get to termini station. I had week pass by all means of transport (16 euros) and it was useful for seeing sites that were away from the center.

Jun 25, 2009 | Trip type: Family

We travelled as a family with young children and decided to have a car to drive around in Rome. This was one of the few hotels that had parking that was free.
We booked for a quad room and were pleasantly surprised with a hotel room that had 2 small bedrooms, one with a double bed and the other with 2 single beds with a small entrance. The bathroom was adequate with a spa, however ventilation was poor in the bathroom and had a really musty smell.
We went in Summer and thankfully the hotel room was fully airconditioned. The double bed was small but comfortable and our request for more pillows was easily met.
There was a very small 12inch TV with only one english channel, which was CNN.
Outside, there was a small heated spa, which was quite welcome after a long hot day but we were unsure about the chlorination as our bathers had a musty smell after the spa.
The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast provided in the morning was adequate with some bread rolls and croissants, spreads, ham and cheese. There was some cereal and orange juice. The coffee came from a preset machine and was poor, as there was not a no sugar option.
The hotel stated that it was central, and it was only a 5 min walk to the bus stop, but it took at least 30mins by bus to get into town.
For its price, it was convenient, however the distance meant that we couldn't go back for a rest and feel like we had the energy to make the trip back into town again for dinner.
There were few restaurants outside the hotel and no night life at all. One night we had to buy takeaway from the local pizzeria to eat back in the hotel room.
On the plus, it was clean and tidy and the staff were friendly. The negatives I have already outlined. In saying that, we would consider staying here again in the future.

Do your homework before you leave home and you'll get the most of your stay at Sunrise.
If arriving at Rome via Ciampino Airport our comments are:
1 Take Terravision Bus to Termini Railway/Bus Station (you can book online) Bus is clean and quick) Cost E4 each way. (About half an hour from airport)
2 Buy your tickets for bus no. 90 from Termini ( 1 Euro) at the papershop. Find the bus station ! It took me about 15mins. It's to the front of the station. Bendy bus was clean and fast, about 20mins to Piazza Sempione which is just after the river bridge and also just after the first bend after the long straight road of Via Nomentana.
3 The hotel is about 5mins walk after you get off the bus just up the road and to the right. There are a few signs if you look out for them. Better still get a map off the web before you go. If you are expecting to arrive in daylight as we were, think again, our plane was delayed 3 hours and it was dark when we got there.
4 We found the hotel to be very comfortable, well furnished and very very clean. The bedroom had aircon. which we needed one night as it was so hot. I wrongly thought our bedroom door wouldn't lock from the outside but you just have to slam it! The ensuite bathroom was very nice and spotless. Breakfast times are generous 7am-10am,. Don't get there at 9.55 as we did one day to find the breakfast room door bolted ( they did agree to let us in ) Breakfast is buffet style eat as much as you like coissants, doughnuts, bread rolls, cereals, cheese, ham pus tea/coffee (not forgetting the strange little packets of 'toast' which seem popular in italy.)
5 To get into the centre of Rome buy your tickets (E1) just outside the hotel in the paper shop. The no. 60 buses are incredibly numerous and travel this route almost in convoy so you won't have to wait very long in the heat. I don't understand what you are supposed to do with the ticket as the drivers are not interested in seeing them . There are little machines in the buses which I think may be to validate the tickets but no-one seems to bother. I heard if you get caught without a ticket it's a E100 penalty.
6 When in Rome you can see most of the main famous sights on foot in a couple of days if you've got a fair amount of stamina and decent footware.
7 It almost goes without saying that Rome is wonderful and if it's within you budget try the guided tour in English of the Coloseum and surrounding area for 22 euros ( lasts about 2hours) The guides were very knowledgable and humorous.
8 On our last night we 'discovered' the local restaurant -HOSTARIA MENENIO AGRIPPA about 100metres from Sunrise and would certainly recommend it if you want one which is non-touristy , non-pretentious and popular with locals. (Must be good!!) Our meal for two ( I had three courses,my wife two), plus half a litre of house red came to E 36.50. According to the T-Shirts worn by staff it's celebrating it's 20th anniversary in 2009.
9 If you don't mind travelling on buses to and from the centre of Rome ( About 15mins) then this hotel is fine.

just returned from a trip around italy this was the last stop and almost ruined our holiday when we finally arrived at the hotel hot and tired we find the area less than appealling looks quite run down and a bit scruffy. Was not happy returning to the hotel at night as we were two females travelling and it was a few minutes walk from the bus stop to the hotel, up a lot of steps.
The hotel was fine clean good size rooms although breakfast was poor by other hotel standards including the hotel we had just left in florence which was only 3 star and in the centre within walking distance of all sights.

This hotel is no way 15 mins by bus if traffic is light it is a good 25mins if traffic is bad (as it usually is) it can take 35/40 mins the hotel appears to be on the opposite side of town away from all the attractions so even when you get to the termini you are still a way off famous landmarks.

Do your homework and try and get a central hotel

I've booked this hotel through lastminute.com as it looks really nice on the pictures. The hotel itself is very clean but problems started wen we arrived... we booked a standard double room and got a really tiny room (different from hotel images which you can find on the websites) with a small bed (definetely not double) and the receptionist told us that this is normal That was not even enough space to walk.. They've just provided blankets with sheets to sleep, no duvets !!! The buffet b'fast was very poor and I've seen better food in 2 stars hotels. 4 stars??? How this is possible? Keep away from this place.
