We decided to stay at the Hotel Cecil when we found a bed and breakfast deal on their website. We wanted to stay downtown to make it easier to walk around to many of the fantastic places in Rome. They also mention parking on their website - they actually do not have parking, but they direct you to a parkade down the street where you must pay extra to park. Fair enough - but a bit misleading on their website.
I must mention that one of our group is in a wheelchair. For us, driving around Italy was our best option so that we could still see the sites and carry the wheelchair in the back.
When we arrived, the desk clerk on duty gave us a room price that was well above the one offered on their website. When we asked, he agreed to look it up on their website and when he saw it WAS there, he very reluctantly agreed to let us have that price. We moved our luggage upstairs and on the way out to explore he stopped us and told us we could no longer have the included breakfast for the price we were paying. We were surprised and disappointed because that was clearly not what was offered on the website, but we didn't wish to be unpleasant, so we just left it at that. He said we could speak to the female desk manager in the morning if we wished to possibly buy breakfast in their breakfast room. We said no thank you. The following morning the two women in our group were sitting in the lobby waiting for our husbands to come downstairs so we could go out to see the sights. The lady at the desk had evidently been made aware of us and when I went to ask her about some recommendations about places to see, she made sure we knew we could NOT have breakfast, we could not even buy breakfast because they were too busy, and went so far as to inform the wait staff that they could not serve us - yes, in full view of us. Very unpleasant. By contrast, during our two day stay, the other desk staff and the porter were very friendly and helpful. One of the porters was very kind to the lady in the wheelchair, often running to help her navigate if she was having trouble.
The room was okay, the beds were not comfortable, but I can see that this hotel is trying to renovate so we were likely just in a room that hadn't been finished yet.
The location of this hotel was very good. Easy walk to the Spanish Steps and beyond. It is unfortunate that the two desk clerks took such great issue with our expecting them to honour their website offer. I could not recommend staying here. I would not stay here again. Rome is beautiful; I know there must be great places to stay.
This hotel is in a good location, but if you expect them to honour a deal offered on their website y...
