Graciousness abounds at Hotel Aventino, which combines elegance and value. Our room was beautifully appointed and spotlessly clean, with a balcony overlooking the lovely greenery of the yard. Spacious bathroom. Helpful staff.

The location is a little out of the way, so you mustn't mind a 10- to15-minute hike to the metro. Or better still, find your way to the Clivo di Rocca Savella for a spectacular view of the city and a beautiful walk down a ramp that takes you from the quiet of the leafy suburbs to the bustling edge of the Tiber.

The Hotel Aventino is located in an upscale quiet neighborhood with fantastic views of Rome nearby . We really enjoyed our room with balcony, nearby trees, and chirping birds. The room wasn't "brand new", but comfortable and well kept, with graceful antique touches, high ceilings and marble floors in the bathroom. Very good breakfast. Good service from hotel staff. A bit of a walk to the metro station, but enjoyable area to walk around in.

Loved peeking through the "Keyhole" on our way into the city center or coming back!

Only negative was the older bathtub with jets which had a broken on/off button, causing confusion on how to stop the jets.

Will definitely go back!!!

We were recommended the Hotel Aventino by Irish friends who had stayed there twice and enthused about the location and classy charm of the hotel. They were right, it's a gem. The view of central Rome from the gardens of the monastery less than 5 minutes away is unforgettable and from there a cobbled street takes you down to the Tiber close to the historic Jewish Quarter and various Roman ruins. We travelled with my brother, sister-in-law and their teenage son and the three teenagers really appreciated being able to chill out kicking a ball in the street outside the hotel - it's more like being in a quiet market town than frenetic Rome. The only downside? - the lack of a bar, as it is a bit too far to walk down the hill (and more significantly back up again) for a nightcap. We did spend rather too much on taxis over the 3 days of our stay and the one from the airport was (literally) extortionate - be sure to ask the hotel to arrange your collection from Ciampino in advance, that way you will not be ripped off in true imperial Roman fashion. On our last evening we did walk back from a restaurant in Trastevere - not too far and a rare taste of non-touristy Rome. It's a wonderful city and when we return we will be booking the quiet, secluded Aventino again...

We were so glad to have been tipped off about the Aventino by some German friends of ours. The hotel is located atop one of the even hills of Rome in a very beautiful residential neighborhood filled with large nineteenth and twentieth century homes and several embassies. It is one of the most upscale areas of the city.
The decor is lovely and our room although very small was graced with a large window, beautifully appointed with antique furniture, comfortable bed. We loved the hardwood floors and tiled bathroom. It overlooked a very nice garden. We had free internet in the rooms.
The common areas were also beautiful and decorated in rich Roman 19th century style. Everything felt very clean and well attended to.
Breakfast was great with plenty of fresh choices to choose from. Definitely more than I expected. Personally I was glad to be staying far from the maddening tourist crowd which is Rome. Staying here just requires some extra walking which we loved. In ten minutes you can reach Circus Maximus and in fifteen the Colosseum on foot. There are
a number of decent restaurants, mainly informal places and also a supermarket just down the hill from the property. The reception help is a bit surly but professional and helpful. When booking this hotel they were very attentive to any email inquiries we had.
And the best part of all, our lovely little room in this lovely end of town cost less than 100 euro per night! I am an expert travel bargain shopper with high standards and this place exceeded my expectations. My advice: don't get fleeced by overpriced Roman hotels near the station or Piazza Spana. Stay here.

My husband and I stayed here for tthe last two nights of a two week trip to Europe to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. All the other reviewers do a great job describing the location issue. You have to like to walk because the price you pay for staying in a lovely residential area is that you walk and you walk and you walk to get to either the subway or any interesting sites. The building is beautiful from the outside and our room (#343) was a little on the small side I'd say for Euro 220. Because we were in Rome in early October, the A/C had been turned off while we enjoyed two beautifully warm days. To get some air circulation in the room at night, we opened our french doors which unfortunately overlook a neighbor's home with a barking golden retriever. The dog starts barking around 5:45 or 6:00 a.m. and he was still barking at midnight when we tried to go to sleep. When we tried to take a nap during the day to make up for our lost sleep at night . . . guess what. Barking dog. I complained to the front desk and I wrote an email to the manager of the hotel after we returned asking for an adjustment to our bill. To no avail. There must be other rooms that don't face the barking dog house but be sure and ask. Our stay was nowhere near worth Euro 220/night. The lack of A/C coupled with the uncontrollable dog barking PLUS a management team that wasn't that interested in customer service was a HUGE negative.

  • Liked — Lovely neighborhood
  • Disliked — Barking dog, small room, distant location, avg. breakfast, overpriced
