We were so glad to have been tipped off about the Aventino by some German friends of ours. The hotel is located atop one of the even hills of Rome in a very beautiful residential neighborhood filled with large nineteenth and twentieth century homes and several embassies. It is one of the most upscale areas of the city.
The decor is lovely and our room although very small was graced with a large window, beautifully appointed with antique furniture, comfortable bed. We loved the hardwood floors and tiled bathroom. It overlooked a very nice garden. We had free internet in the rooms.
The common areas were also beautiful and decorated in rich Roman 19th century style. Everything felt very clean and well attended to.
Breakfast was great with plenty of fresh choices to choose from. Definitely more than I expected. Personally I was glad to be staying far from the maddening tourist crowd which is Rome. Staying here just requires some extra walking which we loved. In ten minutes you can reach Circus Maximus and in fifteen the Colosseum on foot. There are
a number of decent restaurants, mainly informal places and also a supermarket just down the hill from the property. The reception help is a bit surly but professional and helpful. When booking this hotel they were very attentive to any email inquiries we had.
And the best part of all, our lovely little room in this lovely end of town cost less than 100 euro per night! I am an expert travel bargain shopper with high standards and this place exceeded my expectations. My advice: don't get fleeced by overpriced Roman hotels near the station or Piazza Spana. Stay here.
