I went on a one day trip with my husband in July and found the hotel to be well beyond my expectations. The room was cool late july with air conditioning and a lovely view on the breakfast garden. The furnishings were posh and rather on the baroque side, with antique furniture, parquet on the floor and a king size bed. The bathroom was very large with a jacuzzi and beautiful antique tiles. The room even had a refrigerator with drinks, internet connection, a safe and more than enough towelling. In other words it is a 3 star hotel but could very well be a 4 star one. It was just perfect. The breakfast was superb, with all kinds of marmellades, cakes, meats, fruits, cereal, etc.
The hotel staff was extremely courteous and friendly and ready to help. Taxis were booked and arrived in less than 3 minutes.
The Aventino hotel is smack in the middle of Rome, only a minutes taxi drive from Piazza Navona, Circo Massimo, Colosseo, etc. yet it is so silent , being tree-lined and on top of one of the poshest hills of Rome (the villa of the US Ambassador to the Papal State is only down hill from the hotel), that you don't feel you're in central Rome at all but in an exclusive residence.
And all of this for only 90 euros per night. Every once in a while you get more than you ask for in life. I certainly will be back with my husband.

  • Liked — The bed and parquet on the floor and bathroom
  • Disliked — the baroque curtains

Based on positive reviews here on TripAdvisor, my wife and I chose the Hotel Aventino for our 4 night stay in Rome. It really is a lovely little hotel located in what seems to be a nice Roman neighborhood. We really enjoyed waking up each morning to the peace and quiet of Aventino and the perfume of the flowers there in the air. Rome is such a busy/crowded city that you really appreciate staying in a place like this to get re-invigorated for the next day.

Our room was better than we expected and came with in-room safe and all of the other amenties that one would expect in this price range. The TV was tiny, but we didn't travel all of the way to Rome to watch TV. It was unseasonably hot (in the 90s) in Rome during our stay, so the air conditioner came on every time we returned to our room. (The electricity to your room is turned off unless your card key is in the entry socket, so the room was always warm upon return but cooled within an hour.) Air conditioning would not have been on option in the heat & humidity during our stay, and we had heard horror stories on TripAdvisor about other properties who skimp on a/c.

The Hotel Aventino staff was courteous and responsive. My wife's lost luggage arrived (finally ... after 9 days of the airline's incompetence!) and the concierge made sure that it got to us as soon as we got to our room. They also arranged transportation for us to get to FCO for our departing flight. (Note: You can easily take the Metro B line to Termini and take the Leonardo da Vinci Express to FCO; but the Metro B is packed to the gills during rush hour so don't expect an easy time boarding the train with your luggage in tow.)

While there were positives about the neighborhood, it might not be for all travelers out there. You will do significantly more walking around the Roman sights than you would if you stayed in Piazza Navona, Campo di Fiore, or the Spanish Steps. Also, the Metro B line trains were not as nice as the Metro A trains; so my wife and I opted to walk versus ride the Metro to the Colosseum and Roman Forum. Suffice to say, we were completely worn out from all of the walking each night when we returned to Hotel Aventino. Hotel Aventino was cheaper than Piazza Navona or Campo di Fiore hotels, but we think that we'd opt for Campo di Fiore if we could the next time.

With all that said, we'd still happily recommend this hotel to any friends.

10 minute walk to Circus Maximus metro or Pyramide. Quiet neighborhood. Awesome buffet breakfast - had a choice of pastries, cold cuts, boiled eggs, fresh fruit, yogurt, various cereals, jams, and pie/cake of the day. Room a bit small, but very clean and very well appointed and great service. Enjoyed our stay over all.

Agree with most of the other reviews, nice location (although a bit of a treck from the nearest metro), rooms very nicely decorated and clean. Only real downsides were that the breakfasts were not great (most things had already gone if you rise late like us) and the rates are pretty expensive. But I would say it is still reasonable value. It's nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Rome at the end of the day.
