Indeed, the real hotel cannot be compared with the pictures on its website... We stayed for 2 nights in a big but smelly room on the fourth floor, street side. The traffic was noisy, but reasonable. In our opinion the staff was not rude, but also not very friendly. They understood and spoke English better than we do Italian. The bed was comfortable. But the shower-toilet combination was disgusting. The second day when i flushed the toilet, i had to run to avoid wet and dirty feet... Imagine that you have to step in this mess to get a shower. Fortunatly this happend when we were checking out. We also skipped the 2nd breakfast. The coffee was non-Italian. Do go grab a croissant or something in a bar. Excellent is the location near by the termini station and many places on walking distance.

So, just for sleeping this was fine, although 140 euros a night is still expensive for what you get.

This hotel is certainly for those at the budget end, i.e. those who come on holiday wanting a hotel to be a base rather than to spend the holiday in the hotel itself. We paid 120 Euros for the room, which is pretty good for a central location of a major European capital city.

The hotel is bizarrely on alternate floors to the hotel "next door", and is situated in a side street near the main Roma Termini rail station. The tourist buses are based next to the rail station too.

The main plus point is that It is also well located to some of the sights and to a shopping district. We walked everywhere we needed to go, even to the Vatican at the other side of the city centre.

Compared to some of the other Tripadvisor reviews, we must have landed the best room in the hotel. The room was clean and of a good size and the bathroom did what it needed to do. The downstairs restaurant was strangely furnished with plastic patio funiture, but for grabbing a quick buffet breakfast before a day's sightseeing meant that it fitted the bill.

The staff seemed friendly enough and spoke English, but we had little reason to call on them.

I'm sure there are better hotels in Rome for the same money, but if you want a hotel in this location and have the all trimmings, you'll have to pay more for it.

This hotel has pictures of the rooms on its website however i'm not sure what hotel these pictures are taken from as out room was nothing like the photos.
3 nights stay in December, the room was just about ok but not to the 2/3 * i would have expected and its not at a value that i would expect for the cost either.
The heating does not work or last i could not get it to work.
the bath no sorry shower and wc room was the smallest i have ever seen in my lift with a strange toilet to top it all.
As we spent very little time in the room just to sleep and shower/change we put up with the size.
There was no where to really store you items of clothing etc for two people.
One good point the safe in the room was free ( just a deposit) Breakfast the most basic of basic but hay with the vast Italian of foods outside a small breakfast is good as it leaves room for Pizza at lunch ane pasta at dinner.
Woudl i stay at this hotel again, well not unless it was the only place i could get into. its only good point really was the location to the train station.

I was suprised by how the small the room was (two people could not walk side by side in the room). The staff was pleasant, but i did request a wake up call and never received it. It is a decent location from the train station. I booked this hotel at the last minute on the last night of my stay in Rome, it was 60 euro, which i believe for the size of the room was not worth it. I could stay there again, but i would not book my stay there.

By 2 star Italian standards this is ok. The rooms we had were smaller and darker and shabbier than the ones on the website, but they would have been a bargain. The pictures were probably of their best rooms when newly refurbished and professionally lit! Altavilla is quite near Terminale railway station but is in a street with lots of other hotels and restaurants so it's well lit and populated. Sure you watch your bags but we had no hassle. Reception was fine the staff spoke varying amounts of English, but all spoke better English than I do Italian. Breakfast was Italian style (dry rolls and canteen coffee) with corn flakes also available. Our double was clean if shabby and had a concertina door to the very small bathroom. The shower was hand-held in the bath with no curtain. If you are very obese you might struggle to sit on the loo! My 76 year old mum's single had the loo in the shower so there was a step over the 4 inch wall to get to it. The place was quiet at night and the beds comfortable. There's so much to see and do you won't want to hang out at the hotel. Get up and go!!!

  • Liked — price for the location
  • Disliked — reviews on trip advisor! then the bathroom
  • Tips/Secrets: — If you leave in the early hours - check out and pay the evening before. The overnight porter was asleep and spoke least English
