First, the positive: the hotel is clean; our room was reasonably spacious, and the bed was comfortable. It is located conveniently near St. Peter's. Two staff members were friendly.
Now, the negative:
1) We were never informed of the hotel's hours, nor given any building keys (it's on a sixth floor) besides the one to our room. We arrived at 9:10 one evening after dinner to find the gate locked. Luckily, other guests soon came along.
2) I was stunned to taste the very worst coffee of my life (in Italy?), accompanied by orange water (orange juice??) at breakfast; two of the four chairs at our table had broken backs.
3) I saw no fire security of any kind...no smoke detectors, no fire alarms, no sprinklers. One night, all of the hall lights went out. The hotel is laid out like a maze; should there have been a fire...
4) Tiny bathroom, essentially an oversized shower stall.
5) Despite promise of air conditioning, had to make do with a ceiling fan, on the hottest night in Rome (day temp: 100.4) in years.
I realize it's only a two star hotel, but it may be time for a downgrade.
