As a solo female traveller, I stayed two nights -- one week apart -- and I had no hesitation to go back after that first night. Despite the criticisms here of certain facets of this hotel, I LIKED the 5th floor location (it's safe!), found the cage-lift interesting, and the winding staircase up to my room utterly charming. I look forward to different things like this when I travel abroad. I have stayed in the Termini area of Rome before and despite the seediness I feel safer here than any train station-area hotel in the U.S. It is actually about a 10-minute walk from the station, closer to the Repubblica metro station than Termini.
I did have to request a change of room to a courtyard-side one as the one on the street-side was very noisy, as is any street-facing room in Rome. Both rooms I saw offered me a nice balcony. There are also innumerable restaurants in the immediate area, frequented by local families. The breakfast is only 2 rolls (very fresh and delicious) and coffee or tea, so if you want a large American-style breakfast you'll have to supplement somewhere else.
