We stayed for 4 nights in this hotel recently. It was a bit of a shock getting into the 'cage like' elevator in the lobby, before finding our room on the 5th floor. The decor was very dark and while it was reasonably clean, it was not worth the rate we were charged. (It was the most expensive one on our 10 days in Italy and the least value.)
We had a boring, identical breakfast served every single morning - a hard bread roll, a sweeter (croissant type) bun, one portion of strawberry jam and butter were optional, plus tea or coffee. Zwieback in cellophane packs were available too. Really.....couldn't there be some variety?!! Maybe a glass of juice or a piece of fruit, or a yogurt, for example.
The main benefit of the hotel was its walking distance proximity to the Rome Termini station.

Near Rome mainstation (Termini) the hotel is on a quiet side-road. It provides a decent standard for a very reasonable price. The rooms are clean, the family that runs the hotel is very nice and speaks English and German.

What I could tell from my recent experience, is that it's a clean, decent place, suitable located, where you can sleep well, take a shower and not expect a particular luxury according to low price.
Anyway, my intention was to see the city, not its hotel resorts.

I knew when I selected the cheapest private room on Venere.com that I would not be staying in the lap of luxury. The Domus Mea fit my budget but the quality was mediocre at best. First, to access the hotel, you have to be buzzed in an apartment complex and take the lift to the 5th floor. The lobby area was also locked. When I was buzzed in, I noticed it was dark with all sorts of odd photos and decorations. To get to my room, I had to climb an additional flight of steps. The room itself was simply furnished but clean. The bathroom had hairs on the wall and the shower head was covered in lime. Also, the shower head was simply mounted to the wall with a drain in the floor. Water sprayed all over the bathroom. When I left the next morning, the desk clerk was asleep on the sofa in what I assume was the breakfast area. I let myself out and left the key on the desk. It was a bargain for Rome at $80 a night. However, with attention to details (cleanliness, lighting, and maintenance) it could be so much better. I would keep searching next time for something better.
