“Superior Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2007

My honey and I were guests at the Hotel Domus Praetoria in Rome for three nights from November 21 – 24, 2007. The 5 star reviews in Trip Advisor on this hotel are accurate. The best part of our stay in the hotel was the superior attention to customer service from the owners and operators of the hotel, the Menichelli brothers. The hotel even picked-up our Trenitalia train tickets from the main station and mailed them to us in the USA and then answer every tourist question we threw at them in Rome.

Our room #210 was oversized, even by US standards. We enjoyed wood floors, high ceilings, a granite tile bathroom, an excellent king size bed, and lots of storage space. Breakfast each morning included fresh fruit, Italian pastries, yogurt, juice, and their new espresso machine worked perfectly.

The hotel is a quick five-minute walk from the main train station in Rome and is located in a larger condo complex. The map provided on the hotels web site allowed us to walk straight to the complex’s door to ring the bell to find the lobby of the hotel. If you are looking for a hotel with a large lobby and a pool I would suggest another hotel at more than twice the price. However, I wonder if the service will be better?

The hotel rates were fair, the service and room were superior, and the location was convenient to the train station, and neighborhood was safe. I also enjoyed the market that was on the street right in front of the hotel. Another bonus was the convenience of boarding the express train that went directly to the airport from the main train station only 5 minutes from the hotel.

Overall we highly recommend the Hotel Domus Praetoria in Rome and would stay with the Menichelli brothers when we return to Rome.

The people are so nice and helpful. The hotel is conveniently located to the main train station in rome and easy to maneuver the metro. The rooms were basic, but clean, and everything was very satisfactory. THe breakfast was also nice, and we enjoyed all our time here.

  • Liked — the location, cleanliness, price, and friendly staff
  • Disliked — no english tv channels and no bathtub (very common)

This place was exactly as advertised. Not fancy but but a nice, clean, quiet, comfortable hotel in a very convenient location. The staff was EXCELLENT. Very friendly and accommodating.

The neighborhood of this hotel is not high rent but it's not skid row either and not the least bit menacing as some reviews here have suggested. We came and went from our hotel at all hours and did not see anything that gave us concern in the neighborhood.

The hotel is a very convenient 2 blocks to the Termini Station which is the central hub for all trains, subways and buses in and around Rome, although central Rome is pretty compact and with a good pair of sneakers you can get almost anywhere within 15 or 20 minutes walk.

Another really nice thing about this hotel is that although Rome is a very loud and bustling place with lots of traffic, this hotel was QUIET. We had a courtyard room not facing the street so this could be part of the reason but the street outside is not busy.

Some people rating this hotel complained about the lack of breakfast. If you want breakfast, don't come to Rome (or Italy for that matter). The complimentary "breakfast" at the bar across the street is in and of itself a quintessentially Roman experience with locals stopping in on the way to work and sharing the day's stories.

No panoramic views, room service, plush king size beds, feather pillows or fluffy towels here, just clean, comfortable rooms in a boutique hotel in a neighborhood with character and with a very nice, accommodating staff.

We spent 2 weeks in Italy, 6 nights at this hotel. The room was the biggest, cleanest and nicest one we stayed at. It was conveniently located near the train station and subway which was easy to use to get to all the big attractions in Rome. There was a great little street market out front each morning and we loved staying where the locals hang out. The brothers Mossimo, Antonio and Fabio at the front desk were great! They were extremely helpful and friendly. We HIGHLY recommend this hotel and would hesitate not to stay here again.

This hotel deserves all the glowing reviews on this site. The location - next to Termini underground/station- is perfect for getting everywhere quickly and the area feels safe and not seedy at all. Its well lit and so easily reached.

The rooms are big, clean, well decorated, the bed is massive and the bathroom was big, clean and attractive. Its quiet and peaceful.

The main point about this hotel is the italian brothers who run it. They are so welcoming and friendly nothing is too much trouble. I think they'd give you the shirts off their backs if they thought it would please you! It was always nice to come back to them after sightseeing in Rome.

We stayed for 5 nights - asa couple from London in our 20s and this was perfect as a base for exploring ROme. I have never written a trip advisor review before but the service we received meant I wanted to thank the owners.

Breakfast is at a cafe opposite- a selection of pastries and coffees- fine for us.

Good value- highly recommended. Thanks

All the positive comments about this hotel are true. I just wanted to add that if you take the Terravision Bus from Ciampino Airport into Rome it's drop off point is just 150m from the hotel - an easy walk.

I booked based on a few reviews noting this hotel was quiet - as a noise-sensitive traveler, that is always good to hear. I was not disappointed! We had a charming room looking into a small courtyard that looked like it was shared by local romans. The room was absolutely silent. Location was great, a short walk from the train station. We got coffee and pastry tickets for the little coffee shop across the street each morning, and also there was a little farmer's market right out on the street. Staff were very friendly and spoke English pretty well. If i went back to Rome, this would be my first choice.
