We chose this hotel because we were a group of five people and they had the most affordable accommodation with their family room. It worked great because my husband and I were traveling with our teenager daughters. The family room is just 2 rooms that also share a common door, so you can close the common door and leave the room doors open. Plus there were 2 baths which is a major plus with teenage girls!! Basically we used this room for 2 nights just as a place to sleep. We would leave after breakfast and spend most of the day sightseeing returning to the hotel to get ready for dinner and sleep. It is a good walk to the train station. I can see it being a bit much for some people especially if you made several trips a day.
The negatives: Some of the staff were very pleasant and others not so much. The electricity did go out while we were there, but the staff was very quick to fix the problem and it was only out for about 20 minutes. The internet was not working during our stay which was disappointing as my husband needed it for his work.
My daughters did see a scorpion in the hallway one morning, but we never saw any in our rooms or any other little creatures.
If you are looking for a reasonably priced hotel and do not mind the long walk to the train station (you can take a bus instead) and the nonattentive staff this will be a good choice for you. It met our needs and we would stay here again.

The hotel is very new and up to date, although it seems that it has been open for a few years we saw that not all the rooms are finished. Our room was very new and very nice and had a patio but no patio furniture and one chair in the whole room, but it was way to hot to sit out on the patio in Rome anyway. The breakfast was ok, nothing spectacular. The vast majority of the front desk staff speak English but often it seemed like they are inconvenienced to speak English to you. They were definitely not the nicest of people but not the worst either and didn’t make any extra effort to help you enjoy your stay in Rome. There was a bus stop about 2 minutes away from the hotel that took you directly to the metro station. The metro consists of 2 lines, unlike Paris that had at least a dozen if not more. If you request a larger bed they simply push together two single beds and put a larger sheet and blanket on top. Overall it was very new, clean and had pretty nice rooms but the staff weren’t the best we’ve experienced. They do have internet access in the lobby but you have to pay by the hour. Overall the stay was pretty good.

  • Liked — Clean, new rooms and close proximity to public transit.
  • Disliked — Staff weren't the nicest.

We stayed at Blu Hotel Roma in July of 2007. We found the hotel with ease from Ciampino airport, approx 30 euros by taxi. The staff were very pleasant and informative upon arrival, the room was very very clean and comfortable The hotel bar is not open 24 hours as stated on website. The hotel is situated across the road from the bus stop which takes you directly to Tiburtina station(409 bus) from where the metro/underground can be accessed(Platform 1 downstairs.)
From Hotel to all tourist attractions takes around 20 minutes, 4 Euros for a 24 hour ticket takes you everywhere on the metro and on buses, which we felt is very reasonable.
When crossing roads in Rome, you need to be careful yet pushy, as the traffic will not stop. Beware of Scooters!
Taxi to hotel from Roma Termini after midnight costs 10-15 euros
Overall good service from hotel and very easy to get around.

The staff at this hotel have absolutely no concept of how nor desire to provide even rudimentary service to their guests. Simple service assistance like helping with luggage, providing advice on where to eat, how and where to exchange money, help with taxis or tour scheduling, etc were accomplished only when I persisted with the front desk, and even then it was if the staff were doing you a huge favor by even speaking to you, much less providing advice or making a phone call on your behalf. Bottom line, this is not an "ugly American" thing, I made no unreasonable requests or demands , nor was I rude or obnoxious. This is just not a friendly place to stay for Americans who are used to at least some semblance of service at even the most remote and out of the way hotels. Save your money, stay in a higher rated, more expensive hotel with a better reputation for service. Don't waste time and money at the Blu Hotel Roma, they don't seem to want or need your business.

I kind of agree with the previous review. Although 4 stars, there were small things that you woudnt expect from a 4 star hotel, such as plastic disposable cups in the rooms etc. That said, it was very clean and the staff were helpful and polite. At the end of the day, you get what you pay for, so if you dont want to fork out a lot for a hotel in the city itself, then the blu hotel roma is fine. If you go out in the city at night, a taxi home after midnight will cost you about 15 euros from Piazza navona.
