The hotel is well situated if you're going from Termini station, but that's about the only good thing I can find to say for it.
The overall look was undoubtedly quite cool when it opened a few years ago, but years of poor maintenance now really show. The 5 star rating is completely misleading; 3 would be more appropriate...
It's not just that the furniture and walls are chipped and worn, and the bathrooms tired.
It's also the service and ancillary amenities that fail to live up to expectations: everything abut the breakfast buffet screams cheap mass catering supplies; the only redeeming feature was the scrambled eggs that were 'acceptable'. Personally I'd rather get a reasonably decent range juice than be fobbed off with the option of a free glass of low-end bubbly!
The so-called 'wellness centre' is...well, disappointing to say the least. There is a small space that pretends to be a gym, and then there is the wet area: the sauna was lukewarm because the stove was not functioning properly, the jacuzzi was...cold, there seemed to be a space which had been used previously as a steamroom, but that was out of order (probably just as well as there were non-waterproof electric plugs in there). The attendant in charge spoke no english and seemed only interested in selling massages.
We went for a drink at the 1st floor bar one evening, but found it a struggle to get a cold beer: there were no draught beers (advertised on the menu), and we had to send one beer back and choose from a different range in order to get TWO cold beers...
Some of the staff were lovely: the girl at reception when we checked in was helpful and sorted out another room when we pointed out that she'd checked us into a room that hadn't been made. But mostly they were at best indifferent, anonymous and not very competent.
This was the first time I'd been back to Rome for a long time, so I can't benchmark. What I can say with great conviction is that the experience was ultimately disappointing, and in my opinion hugely detrimental to the Radisson brand name.
