My husband and I have just returned from a long weekend in Rome to watch Wales v Italy. I chose this hotel following favourable reviews and we were not disappointed.

As has been mentioned, the rooms are small but this is not unusual for Rome. The bathroom had a small shower cubicle (no bath) which was OK and the toiletries provided were of a good standard. The bed was a little hard but we found the pillows were rock hard - my husband said it was like sleeping with your head on a brick!! As we were only there for a few days this was not too uncomfortable, but if we had been there longer we might have asked for something a bit softer.

The reception staff were very helpful, as were the staff in the restaurant. We only ate breakfast in the hotel and there was plenty of variety - fruit, croissants, cooked, etc.

The hotel is in a good location and just a short walk from the nearest Metro - Republica - and the bus terminus. You can get anywhere in Rome from here. There were lots of local restaurants within walking distance and we ate out every night. One evening we ate in an Argentinian restaurant called Baires which had the most fantastic steak.

All in all, the Empire Palace is a small and friendly hotel in a convenient location. The rooms were kept immaculately clean and extra towels were provided daily. Bath robes and slippers were also provided. Drinks in the bar were expensive, but no more so than anywhere else in Rome.

We would not hesitate to use this hotel again and look forward to visiting Rome again, probably in another two years.

We found the room very small and we looked out at a Harley Davidson showroom (although there are worse views!) and not a lot of light could enter the room. The bed was rather hard but the Egyptian cotton sheets added a touch of luxury. Nice bathroom and accessories. Friendly and helpful staff. Good food. The public areas are lovely, especially the bar. For our purposes we found the hotel too far away from main attractions.

The staff was friendly. The room was clean and very, very quiet.
The breakfast was good. I didn't choose this hotel myself as somebody else booked this hotel for me. I was disappointed when I arrived at the hotel and the internet in my room didn't work. The staff promised to take care of the problem but they never did. Beside that, in a 4 stars hotel you should expect free internet at least in the lounge, but I had to pay for each connection. Anyway, it is not too far from the bus stop to visit the different area's in Rome.

This hotel is okay but I won't go back next time. I stayed also in other hotels in Rome, cheaper, better and definetely more beautiful.

We have recently spent a long weekend in Rome at the Empire Palace Hotel. It was a lovely hotel, everything you would expect from a 4*. The breakfast in particular was very very good, every taste catered for, it wasn't exactly the best "English" breakfast but this was more than made up for by all of the other wonderful breakfast choices on offer. The room was a good size, not huge but certainly not small and very very clean. The free to use room safe, reasonably priced mini bar (compared to other hotels and the price of drinks in Rome!) and free to use slippers and fluffy dressing gown were much welcome touches - although still not sure what the cloths that covered the towels were for???? It was modern, bright and airy and the staff were very helpful and friendly. The communal reception lounge was very nice and the bar looked lovely although we didn't get chance to drink in it. I only have two negative comments to make, firstly the air conditioning was on all day until mid night and was not needed in November, there was no way to turn it down in the room it had to be done by reception, on the first night they managed to do this no problem, on the second night it was very apologetically explained to us that it wasn't possible until midnight, which confused us a bit, by the 3rd night we gave up. The only other thing was the location, it is within walking distance from some of the major sights but it is a long walking distance and would not be suitable for the elderly, very young or those not comfortable walking. We did it so it is do-able but our feet ached a lot by the end of each days sightseeing, taxi's can be expensive (and don't necessarily take tourists directly to the requested location in the quickest or shortest, therefore cheapest route possible), so if your looking for a hotel within walking distance take some very very comfortable shoes and some foot soak for the evening. I would recommend this hotel to friends and family and would stay here should I ever visit Rome again.
