We have recently spent a long weekend in Rome at the Empire Palace Hotel. It was a lovely hotel, everything you would expect from a 4*. The breakfast in particular was very very good, every taste catered for, it wasn't exactly the best "English" breakfast but this was more than made up for by all of the other wonderful breakfast choices on offer. The room was a good size, not huge but certainly not small and very very clean. The free to use room safe, reasonably priced mini bar (compared to other hotels and the price of drinks in Rome!) and free to use slippers and fluffy dressing gown were much welcome touches - although still not sure what the cloths that covered the towels were for???? It was modern, bright and airy and the staff were very helpful and friendly. The communal reception lounge was very nice and the bar looked lovely although we didn't get chance to drink in it. I only have two negative comments to make, firstly the air conditioning was on all day until mid night and was not needed in November, there was no way to turn it down in the room it had to be done by reception, on the first night they managed to do this no problem, on the second night it was very apologetically explained to us that it wasn't possible until midnight, which confused us a bit, by the 3rd night we gave up. The only other thing was the location, it is within walking distance from some of the major sights but it is a long walking distance and would not be suitable for the elderly, very young or those not comfortable walking. We did it so it is do-able but our feet ached a lot by the end of each days sightseeing, taxi's can be expensive (and don't necessarily take tourists directly to the requested location in the quickest or shortest, therefore cheapest route possible), so if your looking for a hotel within walking distance take some very very comfortable shoes and some foot soak for the evening. I would recommend this hotel to friends and family and would stay here should I ever visit Rome again.
