We recently spent 3 nights at the Nicolas Inn in Rome. It is situated in a great location, convenient to all of the major sites in Ancient Rome. Melissa & Francois were there to greet us upon our arrival from our long trip to Rome. It felt like such a safe, clean and comfortable haven in which to stay right in the heart of Rome. The rooms are very modern and clean and the bed extremely comfortable. Convenient to restaurants.
Francois & Melissa couldn't be more helpful with advice and tips for our stay in Rome. You walk out the front door of the building and you are within blocks of most of the major sites. This is particularly nice when you are tired and want to go back to your room. On one particular day we were hot and tired from a long walk and Francois knocked on our door with ice-cold juice. This was one of the few places we stayed on our trip in which we had access to wireless internet. When we checked out Francois came to help us put our luggage in the taxi and asked the driver to be sure to take the most direct route to the train station. These are the types of extra little touches that make it a very special place to stay.

Francois and Melissa Nicolas of the Nicolas Inn are wonderful, attentive hosts who truly enhanced our "Roman holiday"! We chose the Nicolas Inn based on our exhaustive on-line searches and favorable reviews from previous guests, and we couldn't be happier with our choice. The inn is located in the heart of Rome, but the real gem is the owners themselves. They go out of their way to make you feel welcome and at home.
The inn is located near the Colosseum and is within walking distance of many of Rome's landmarks. Public transportation, such as buses, tour buses, etc., is nearby, and Francois and Melissa will not only let you know the best way to get there, but will happily make arrangements for taxis, tours, etc. The inn is on a typical Roman city street. Our family enjoyed throwing open the shutters and hearing the city sounds at night; however, closing the windows provided a quiet night's sleep as well. The rooms are pleasant and very clean and are a size typical for rooms in Rome. The inn has various rooms available, from a large, spacious room with a king-size bed, to a room with two twin beds that our teenage children enjoyed. The bathrooms are modern and very clean, and the tub/shower had fabulous water pressure! The beds were perfect for us -- comfortable and firm, but not hard. It is not a typical bed & breakfast by American thinking; that is, the owners do not actually live on the premises (they live just across the street!), and breakfast is not served there. However, each morning we were greeted with a tray of hot cappuccino and orange juice in our room and given a card which entitled us to a complimentary continental breakfast at a great little cafe a few doors down. The cafe has wonderful cappuccino and pastries and a friendly staff . We stayed at the inn for four days, and we became "regulars" at the cafe.
The Nicolas Inn was all that it advertised to be and more. What their website does not convey is what a warm, welcoming couple the owners are. If you do not speak Italian, no problem. Melissa was born in the U.S., and Francois speaks English as well. Their attention to our needs knew no bounds -- their purpose was to make our stay in Rome a memorable one, and they certainly did!

My wife and I stayed four nights this past May. The location (a few blocks from the metro in one direction and the Forum in another) was unbeatable. The room was spacious, quiet, and clean. The owners, though, were even more impressive than the dwelling. Our first night in Rome, my wife slipped and broke her ankle. She soldiered through as best she could, but Melissa and Francois provided both encouragement and assistance. We owe them our sincerest thanks.

We enjoyed our stay at Nicolas Inn. It was close to the heart of Imperial Rome. Francois and Melissa were very kind, helpful, and informative. They helped us settle in and gave us recommendations. They went above and beyond, including booking restaurant reservations, arranging a ride to the airport, mapping out directions to sites, and ensuring that our room was clean after coming back from breakfast.

We had a very spacious room off Via Cavour, and it was extremely quiet when the window was closed. We had control of the AC so we were never too warm at night. The breakfast was at a charming little bar. We enjoyed sitting at a table near the street, watching Rome wake up.

We would definitely come back and would like to thank Francois and Melissa for everything.

We had so much fun at Nicolas Inn! Great, laid back atmosphere with two great people running the show. We were European virgins but they held our hand through the stay and it was so easy to get around. Forget your worries about itty bitty European hotel rooms - we had a big room with a big bathroom. Fresh towels every day with plenty of soap and shampoo. All the horror stories we had heard about traveling to Europe were dispelled. Book a room, you won't be disappointed.

PS: Francois helped us pick out a great bottle of wine from the shop near the B&B. Thumbs up!
