We have been to Rome before but never with the Nicolas Inn dimension added. A short walk from the train station The Nicolas Inn was a delightful change from typical Rome hotels. The owners Francois & Melissa Nicolas were gracious hosts that made us feel like family. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Melissa even baked a chocolate cake for an evening snack. The location is just a walk from many of the tourist attractions (The Coliseum, The Pantheon, The Spanish Steps & Trevi Fountain). Breakfast of delightful finger sandwiches & cappuccino was provided via a small cafe just two doors from the Inn entrance. We enjoyed a wonderful dinner at a restaurant just steps from the Inn. The entire visit was an invitation to return not just to Rome but to our new friends at the Nicolas Inn.

Arriving in Rome, for the beginning of an 8 day trip in Europe, hosts Melissa and Francois had arranged transportation to and from the airport. Francois met us at the door and carried our bags up the two short flights of marble steps. This beginning was enchanting, and a huge relief in a new city. Melissa is American, Francois speaks 7 languages, and meeting them both was like being reunited with family. They were warm, excited, and you felt as if you were their only guest. The room, the only one facing the courtyard, rather than the street, while small, was well -appointed, charming, with very comfy bed and quite sufficient for a three night stay. The bathroom is large with beautiful tile. The shower may be a bit tight for a large man, but was fine for us. One night they left us a bottle of wine with two glasses, very nice. They also expressed genuine concern when our tour plans hit a snag, and they weren't sure where we were and knocked on our door. We had taken an evening tour with Through Eternity...a must do for the first night to get the lay of Rome. Breakfast is offered 3 doors down at a small cafe. No pancakes and eggs for Romans....just simply a pastry, juice and coffee. There was a daily fruit basket in the 'lobby' of the Inn and the casual accessibility made for a great stay. Melissa and Francois are excellent hosts and provide the necessary concierage services foreigners need....from reservations, restaurants, maps, and fun chatter. it was very comforting to have them as home base. The location is fantastic; minutes from the Coliseum and central to many sites. Rome is a beautiful city. When we return to see the art museums in depth, we will definitely stay with Melissa and Francois at gay friendly Nicholas Inn.

Nicholas In was all that we expected. Nice accomodation at a location which made it very easy to access all districts of the city either by Metro, Autobus or on foot. The hosts Francois and Melissa were on hand to provide advice and information which made it feel like staying with friends. It was nice to holiday with a personal feel and accessing Roman life rather than staying in a non-descript, soul-less hotel just like the last one. This is a place we will return to.

If you're looking for a quaint Inn that is small, warm and cozy, spotlessly clean, well appointed with owners that are bend-over backwards friendly and helpful then this is the place to stay. Things like a bowl of fruit in the sitting area, a complementary bottle of wine in the room, fresh cake one afternoon in the sitting room for the taking,a long distance phone card for guest use free of charge, advice on restaurants, touring ...anything at all. My daughter and I felt so welcome and at home...took the stress out of arriving in a strange city dead tired and disoriented. Location is terrific....can walk anywhere as long as you are mobile. Close to the subway also. Will stay here another time for sure and will recommend to others without hesitaion. Thank you Melissa and Francois for your amazing hospitality!!

The Nicolas Inn is the perfect place to stay in Rome. It is a great location to all the major sites, the rooms are extremely clean, quiet and beautifully decorated. The owners are two of the friendless people and are very knowledgeable of the area restaurants and attractions. I would recommend this place to anyone who is going to visit Rome.
