This hotel is amazing, the location is astounding. Waking up to see the colliseum was the best start of the day and to make it better, breakfast is served on the rooftop for an even better view. What really makes the hotel a 5 star hotel is the staff. The front desk supervisor was wonderful, Milly was the one present for most of my stay and I must say she made the stay even better. Every request made was fulfilled and the entire staff really makes you feel like royalty. Towels would be changed immediately after use or as you leave, weather reports for the next day and chocolates on your pillow, while just little things make you feel special.
The only things that people should remember before booking are that you are paying for this 5 star treatment, it is quite expensive both for the room and for food. While the price of the room cannot be helped, food is easily accessed in the streets next to the hotel for far less. The next thing is that if you are booking the penthouse, it is not at the actual hotel. I was actually quite lucky because I booked the penthouse but it was unavailable and as a result they gave me an amazing complimentary upgade to the best suite the actual hotel had to offer. I loved it!!!
The bed was probably the best I have ever slept on in my life and the pillow menu (six are given per bed, with options for other types) guarantee a great night sleep. The marble bathrooms and bathtub staring at the colliseum made it feel even more regal.
All in all it was the best hotel I have ever stayed in and I look forward to staying there again.

Very nice and pleasant hotel situated just in front of Roma Colosseum. Beautiful rooms with windows directed to old Roma city or park. It's easy to get to Forums, few steps to Colosseum, 200 meters to Metro.
There are some good restaurants in the region behind Gladiatory hotel and it was easy to make reservation with kind help of reception. It is not so necessary as every pizzeria and restaurant usually has free places (in November :) though someone on reception can give you wise advice.
It was surprise for us to find suddenly very good wine-tasting shop
just close to the hotel. But it was our last evening in Rome :( Shop is situated on the cross of Via Capo del Africa and Via Ostilia. Wines a sorted there by Italian provinces and it is possible to try a lot of them and/or buy it.
In few words, we were glad to stay in hotel Gladiatory.

Stayed in loft labatica, no phone, door lock was messed up and had to get passer by to go to front desk to get us out of our room. Even with code could not get internet connection. The only good thing was location.

We initially booked the Marco Aurelio loft for 4 nights.

Observations:
- Loft is very nicely setup. Clean and modern decor make then an appealing place to stay (although they price reflects this)
- Locations is 5-10 min from hotel. Hotel has much better location. Upon check in he wad to walk to the apartment on our own (at night with kids) and figure out keys, how the aprtment worked, etc
- A number of things were not working: safe deposit box did out of order, air conditioning out of order, cable tv out of order
- IMPORTANT: Loft is very noisy. We woke up with the sound of the adjacent apartment (I think they are perminent residents in the building). This included a never ending child practicing the piano.

Adter complaining we were offered several options. We ended up staying at one of the suites facing the coliseum.

Observations
- Very nicely setup and clean. Very comfortable beds. Wonderful view.
- Although hotel is in a busy street, it insulates sound very well with windows close.
- Hotel is small and short on staff, however service was good and very responsive to our needs.

Would stay at the hotel again, but not at full rates. Would not stay in the Marco Aurelio apartments.

stayed here Christmas '07 and really enjoyed it. Arrived 24th Dec to 28th and hotel was beautifully decorated for Christmas. The receptionist and bellboy were very helpful and couldn't do enough for us. While the hotel wasn't cheap I didn't find it overly expensive as some seem to find it but then we may have gotten a particular deal for Christmas.
The lift though truelly is TINY and not good for anyone remotely claustrophobic. It was also as quick or quicker to climb the stairs. For this reason and the steps leading up to the front door this hotel isn't in any way wheelchair friendly.

I would agree that the bar though is extremely hit-and-miss. Two of our party went up for a glass of wine on our first evening and were shocked by the price so we were glad it was just two who learned the lesson and not all seven of us! Breakfast was very enjoyable, not spectacular but nice. We were lucky in that there was great weather so we were able to sit out on the balcony and enjoy the fantastic view of the Colosseum.

The one complaint I would have is that the Colosseum view rooms were not worth paying extra for as they were smaller than the ones facing the lovely park opposite. One of our rooms was Colosseum facing while the other three weren't and the couple in that room asked to be moved to the city view rooms as they represented much better value. To give the hotel their due, they did offer to allow us to keep that room and the cheaper room rate, we considered this to be a fairer price to pay and much less hassle , we therefore accepted and everyone was happy.

On our last day while we waited for our taxi to take us to the airport we decided to use our voucher for a glass prosecco and nibbles, that was in our room on check-in. This was a lovely way to end the trip as we had a beautiful view and were able to relax before leaving. I would absolutely recommend this hotel to travellers of all ages and persuasions.

  • Liked — location, check-in staff, public areas beautifully decorated, view from roof top
  • Disliked — bar prices and bar staff seemed to just leave their post completely unmanned for long periods of time
