To get to hotel was a problem. No phone number was given on the confirmation sheet so we could not call to find out how to get there from Termini train station by the underground and taxi's wanted between 30-50 Euros. Don't even try to get a telephone directory assistance operator to get a phone number. Almost everyone we asked did not know the number for the operator, maybe there isn't one. Checked with the railway police and they were kind enough to get a print out from their system with a phone number. Big tip here, use the railway police instead of asking around.
We were finally on our way but found out that we were on the last train on line B to Rebibbia, because it was around 11:30 pm and that line closes. If you ask the hotel they would tell you to go to P. Mammola which is the stop before Rebibbia and take bus # 341. However, we missed that bus by a few seconds, it was the last bus and left at 12 midnight. The better thing to do is go to Rebibbia station and take bus (#311) to hotel. The last bus leaves here at 12:30 am.
Hotel reception staff was not very friendly, neither night or day. The young lady in the morning could not find a smile to put on her face.
The bathroom left much to be desired. It was clean but the bathtub was chipped all over and it looked horrible. This was from the shower curtain rod falling into it all the time and chipping away. The room was a good size though.
The breakfast was great. On the first day we had lots to choose from, ham, salami, sausage, bacon, buns, sliced bread, lots of cold and hot drinks and a variet of fresh pastries. On the second day, which was a Sat. there were more people in the hotel and the bacon, ham, sausage etc were not available and only sliced bread which I found a bit tough. The breakfast staff ,however, was excellent, at times they even brought treats to the table. We greatly appreciated their kindness.
Directions to get to downtown Rome from hotel:
You can buy a 1 ride ticket from the hotel, I think for 1 Euro, it is good for 1 hour. You have to walk out from the hotel to the main street, walk to the left to bus stop. I think there is a shop on the left that also sells the 24hours day pass. Take bus # 311 or 341. Both buses go to Rebibbia Stn. If you can't get the bus pass around the hotel area and you don't want to spend the extra 1Euro, you can walk to Rebibbia Station, it is about 15 mins.
The best thing to do is buy a 24 hours day pass which is about 4.5 Euros, you can get that from any Tobacconist, and there is one just outside the Station where the bus drops you off. This way you use it on the buses and trains as many times as possible. Most tourists use LIne A and Line B the most. From Rebibbia take the metro to Termini and change to whereever you want to go.
Last train on LIne B to Rebibbia iStn. is 11:30 pm and last train on Line A is 9 pm. Last bus #311 from Rebibbia towards the hotel is at 12:30 am. Ask the driver to tell you when you get to Cascina Palace because it is not on the main road and the bus stops are not easily seen.
One last thing, beware of the taxis. We called for one to take us to airport and we were two minutes late. By that time he had started the meter about 8 minutes before our time and when we got inside, the meter was already reading 16.5 Euros. He did admit starting the meter way before. I was angry and told him that that was cheating and I did not appreciate that. The estimated fare to airport is 50 Euros, ours came to almost 67. You can always use the metro and take the train from Termini station if your flight is in the afternoon/evening. So this hotel is not convenient moneywise, for travel to airport.
Outside of the hotel problems, our stay in Rome was wonderful, the people are warm and friendly. Lots to see and do, but not enough time. We would love to go back to Rome again, minus all of the incidents, of course. Hope this review helps someone else to avoid similar problems.
