We stayed at the Hotel Gea di Vulcano for four nights. Our room was spacious and clean. The bathroom was tiny but fine. The rest of the hotel was decorated nicely and the breakfast was decent. I found the location to be very convenient. Via Nazionale is a busy street with several bus stops. It's close to Termini and not too far from ancient Rome. We walked from the train station with our luggage and didn't find it to be too bad. My only complaint is that the hotel didn't have wireless internet. In this day and age I don't think there is an excuse for not having it. Fortunately, there was an internet point across the street. In general I found the hotel to be comfortable and affordable and I would stay there again.

We stayed at the Hotel Gea for nine nights. Our family room was in fact a three room apartment, we had our own key to let us in the side entrance of the hotel which was close to our room...very convenient. It was decorated very nicely with televisions in both bedrooms (a wonderful thing -- if you love Italian TV!!) The rooms had a lot of charm and character with vaulted stone ceilings, antique furniture and semi-circular windows with shutters, really pretty. Lovely big bathroom, plenty of towels, etc., just couldn't ask for any better. There were four of us (kids are 11 and 10), but I'm sure it could accommodate six. There were also tea and coffee facilites. Breakfasts were very good with plenty of choice, ham, cheese, cereals, fruit, yogurts, croissants and all kinds of spreads. The coffee was really good too. The staff were very welcoming, especially Anna in the breakfast room, who was very helpful and sweet. All in all, they made our trip to Rome a very comfortable and memorable one. If you decide to get an airport bus to Termini Station (much better value than a taxi) it is an easy ten minute walk down Via Nazionale, no hassle at all, if you don't have too much luggage. Good location too -- we found it easy to get around Rome as we hopped on and off the buses using our passes bought from the newsagents (which you can use for trains as well). I would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone and would return there if I were lucky enough to get back to Roma. Grazie!

We stayed at Hotel Gea di Vulcano for 3 days on our recent trip to Rome. We were very pleasantly surprised by it. We arrived late, after a hair-raising taxi trip from the airport, and were greeted by friendly patient staff who then showed us to our delightful room, a small suite half way up a spiral staircase. It was a wonderfully spacious, clean and well appointed room. We even had access to the back entrance to the hotel at the foot of the staircase. We found the hotel to be perfectly positioned for us. We walked everywhere so the proximity of public transport was not really an issue for us, but it is on the via Nazionale which is a major arterial route with buses constantly moving up and down. The hotel was older but clean and the staff helpful and well informed. The only small negative comment would be about the size of the breakfast room, however this did not really bother us as we ate breakfast out most days. We found it great for our purposes and good value for a hotel so handy to the sites of Rome and the railway station.

  • Liked — Our cute little apartment and its proximity to the sites
  • Disliked — The small breakfast room

My sisters and I just got back from our European vacation and this was our first stay on the trip.

Great staff that were very accomodating. Wonderful location. We walked from the Termini Train station to our hotel. Not a bad haul at all.

Breakfast was served every morning with a wonderful array of fruits, pastries and great coffee! The two ladies who ran the breakfast room were very sweet.

Bathroom was great. We were sad not to have a tub, but didn't mind taking showers. It was a nice size bathroom.

All in all it was excellent. We absolutely loved Rome and would definitely go back to tour more sites. There are so many! And this hotel is great for hopping on the metro or catching a cab. Or just walking around the city! Close to everything.

The Hotel Gea is a wonderful, comfortable place to stay. The room was beautifully furnished with lovely artwork and drapery. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom was very modern and new. The carpet in the room was plush and felt great on our tired feet.

We found the receptionists at the desk extremely helpful and knowledgable. They gave us a detailed map of the area, and recommended restaurants, and tour companies to use.

There are safe deposit boxes at the front desk available for use, a breakfast that is included in the room rate, and a hairdryer in the bathroom.

Overall, a comfortable, modern hotel in an ancient city.
