My mother and I spent 4 nights at Residenza Canali in June. I was a little nervous, having read a few complaints about the service (particularly with regard to female guests), but we were extremely pleased with our experience. If you want a large, elegant hotel with lots of fuss and glamour, the Canali isn't for you. But if you are looking for a small, personal hotel where you are greeted with a smile and can enjoy a nice breakfast before setting out to explore Rome, this is the place. All the staff were very friendly and we enjoyed chatting with them. We didn't have any special requests or needs aside from arranging our airport transportation, which went very smoothly.

The hotel is in a gorgeous 18th-century villa just off of the lovely Via dei Coronari. We couldn't believe how close we were to Piazza Navona (which was very helpful when we ran out of money one night!). The only thing marking the hotel is a tiny label next to the doorbell, which you must ring in order to enter. The reception desk, up one flight of stairs, is manned 24 hours a day. It made us feel like we were staying in our own private villa! Our twin room on the 4th floor was quite small and a bit dim, but it was very clean, with nice furnishings and fabrics, a window looking out over the street, a large wardrobe with room for our 2 suitcases, a dressing table, A/C and a lovely tile bathroom. Our only complaint was that we really needed a second mirror in the bedroom - we politely suggested this when we left. We also mentioned that my mother had not been assisted with her bag up the 3 flights of stairs when we arrived, and the staff apologized for this oversight.

I have previously splurged for a Pantheon-view room at the Albergo del Senato, but for a reasonably-priced (we paid 185 Euro cash, which was a 20 Euro discount off the credit card price), high-quality room in the center of Rome, the Canali is an amazing find. I would definitely stay here again (and would try to get one of the top-floor rooms with private terrace!).

  • Liked — The perfect location and friendly staff
  • Disliked — Room was a bit dim - not the kind of room to "hang out" in

We are trip advisor members from Pennsylvania in the USA. My wife, daughter and I had a junior suite. The Canali is centrally located with easy access to the main tourist sites. Clean, quiet and spacious rooms with a nice breakfast. The staff was very, very friendly and extremely helpful with directions and recommendations. This made some of our travels around Rome much easier. Because it was on a side street off of Piazza Navonna it was quiet and pleasant. The air conditioning was superb and needed in the hot July weather. This is a great place for parents to stay when visiting college students studying abroad who are staying at Campo de Fiori. We stayed 6 nights and would return again when we revisit Rome. You will not be disappointed. The candies at the registration desk are something to remember.

Myself, my husband and three teenage children have just returned from a 4 night break in Rome, staying at this wonderful hotel. The airport pick up, which was arranged via email direct with the hotel, was an efficient way to get into the city and delivered us right to the reception area of the hotel by the driver who helped with bags etc. The childrens room was spacious enough and our room on the top floor was lovely. It had a great roof terrace which was a lovely place to sit on an evening after a busy day. The rooms were clean and tastefully decorated and the bathroom was well stocked with toiletries and loads of towels. Breakfast was more than adequate with plenty of choice and everything was very fresh. Staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful. All major sights in Rome are within walking distance of the hotel which made it the perfect location for us. It is right by the Piazza Navona so not far to walk for dinner on an evening! We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a small family run hotel with lots of character in a central location.
We would love to return to Rome and if we do we will be staying here again.

We were in Room 2 on the top floor. I specifically requested a room with a terrace and the only drawback to this room is that the A/C could not keep up with the extreme heat. I learned that the owner is planning on upgrading the A/C but until then be prepared to be very warm if you go in the summer. The terrace faces east so it is cooler and pleasant to sit on in the evening. Staff was extremely helpful and patient and their restaurant recommendations, especially the Trei Archi de Loretto, were excellent. I loved how the Residenza Canali is tucked away but yet so close to the Piazza Navona and an easy walk to the Pantheon and Vatican. The breakfast room has been relocated recently and is sunny and bright with a good choice of pastries and meats. I would happily return to this charming little inn on my next visit to Rome- which will NOT be in the summer!

  • Liked — The age of the building and the tucked-away locale
  • Disliked — The inefficient A/C

Had a wonderful stay at this lovely little hotel/residence. We had two rooms side/side as we were a family of four. A twin and a double. The rooms were very nicely appointed. Bathrooms great although our shower a little small and not suitable for a larger person. Just make the request on booking. A/C was hotel wide so no adjustment - it was hot so fine by us. Staff were very friendly especially lovely Romanian/Bulgarian girl (sorry cant remember) who was so helpful, courteous, and charming. Offered to carry our bags down on departure. Breakfast good (our 12th diff accomm on this trip) with fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereal - good choice, and breads and pastries. Best of all was location. Dont stay anywhere else if you want to be in the midst (but in a quiet street) of plenty of restaurants and lively piazza (Navona). It was literally around the corner. Easy walk to Spanish Steps/Trevi/ Vatican even for lazy 18 y o daughter. Bus no. 87 around corner straight to Collosseum and back. Soooo easy. Unless you want 5 star with restaurant/bar (although why you would with so many restaurants/bars nearby) or lift/concierge service, dont stay anywhere else. We were very happy.
Roof top room with terrace would have been perfect!

  • Liked — Location, Location, Location. Tea making facilities - very unusual in Europe!
  • Disliked — Terrace not available for us. Otherwise nothing.
