My wife and I stayed for 2 nights adn were pleasantly surprised. Admitted the hotel is not exactly smack in the center of things. It's a 12 minute walk to the Spanish stairs - about half to Piazza Barberini. The good thing is that it is only a 5 minute walk from Termini (but not in the seedy district), which is nice if you arrive from the airport with Leonardo Express (funny name, that; especially the Express part). When we arrived the receptionist was very forthcoming and gave us good advice about where to go, where not go and where to eat in the neighbourhood. The room was nicely furbished and not that big (but then again they seldom are in Rome); but quite OK. Everything was clean and everything worked fine (all lamps, toilet etc - even hot water in the shower) - not a thing to be taken for granted in Italy. There was even CNN (the only English channel) on the very small TV (but who goes to Rome to watch TV?). On our departure day we could leave our suitcases in the reception until we should take the train to the airport.

We can warmly recommed the small restaurant around the corner in Via Flavia called Sorreno (or something like that; go out of the hotel, turn left. ON via Flavia (first cross section) turn left again. Cross via Servio Tullio and the restaurant is on your right about 50 meters down (there two right next to each other). Real neighbourhood charm and really good value for money.

After seeing previous reviews I was very concerned about staying at this hotel. However I found this hotel secure, clean and well situated for a good price.
The Hotel is entered by a intercom system which when you arrive for the first time is not the easiest to find, you then enter via a locked door which to be honest made me feel the security was excellent. You only have to climb 2 floors of stairs, unless you are disabled there really is no need to take the lift.
The rooms are nicely decorated and the bathrooms were spotlessly clean with plenty of space.
The staff were all friendly and welcoming and the hotel is situated within 10 mins walking distance of Termini station but not close enough for the area to be dodgy.
The Breakfast was lovely, fresh coffee and various types of pastries and bread rolls all placed on the table when you arrive. There are also juices, teas and cereals.
Remember this is a 2 star hotel in a major city - I think it was great value for money and would definately stay here again.

I booked this hotel through Last minute.com & couldve kicked myself after id paid & found out it was cheaper to book direct (Supposed to have been a special rate!)
When we arrived at the Hotel Invictus it was very poorly marked & we almost walked past it.
You access the hotel by pressing a buzzer & they tell you to come up to the 2nd floor.
You reach the floors via a rickety old lift (but then th ebuilding is very old anyway). When we got there we checked in & were given instructions to go up to the 4th floor. We went up & could find nothing with Hotel Invictus on it - there were allsorts of businesses in the other rooms. So we had to go back down to the reception again & get the man to take us back up. The room was behind a door on the left as we came out of the lift. Entry is gained with a key card. Once through the door there are 5 bedrooms, also accessed with the key card.
The bedroom was reasonably sized & there was a queen sized bed in the room. Although the hotels website promises a dvd player, cd layer & lcd tv in the room, we only had the lcd tv & could only get 1 channel in English.
The bathroom was a fair size, but the shower wasnt so big. The 1st day there the water was lukewarm, but bearable-just. The 2nd morning when we got up & went to have a shower there was no hot water at all. I spoke to reception & was told that they were waiting for it to be repaired that day. That night we had fantastic hot showers, which were much needed as the room was freezing! The next morning (Our last) the hot water had disappeared again.
Although the location was central & far enough away from the nightime perils of Termini station (pickpockets, etc), i wouldnt book to stay there again.
I must say that for a 2 star hotel it was very clean & well decorated, but the unreliability of the plumbing really put a dampner on the trip. Although we had breakfast booked,we didnt bother getting up to go and have it, so i cant comment on the food standards im afraid.

  • Liked — It was clean & well located
  • Disliked — The room was freezing & there was no hot water for most of the trip

You have to carry your luggage up to the 1st floor (which is our '2nd' floor in the U.S.) then from there you can hop in a tiny freight style elevator which will take you up to the "hotel" floor(s). The entire building is not just for hotel Invictus. They are simply on one or two floors in this building. The stair case was steep and dirty and the elevator was "rikity" and very small. Once we arrived in our room, however, my wife and I were PLEASANTLY surprised. It was VERY clean, modern, and fairly quiet. I do recommend this hotel if you're okay with a good bit of walking because it isn't very close to any of the major attractions in Rome.

The initial problem was that I booked 3 nights at the Hotel RE not the Invictus. There was no Hotel RE at the correct address, this did cause a bit of a concern when we arrived, I thought we had been ripped off! After asking a local shopkeeper, we were pointed to a door to an apartment block, and rang the bell of the only hotel listed, the Invictus. It turns out this was the correct hotel as they had our booking, no explanation on the two hotel names was forthcoming.

Room was great, but aircon did not work and toilet tended to run all night when flushed. Strangest hotel ever, was actually converted apartments over several non sequential floors. Expensive for what it was at £120 per night.

There is a suberb cafe across the road on the corner, does a great breakfast of; freshly squeezed OJ, cafe latte and pastry for €3.30!

Location pretty good, easy 15 minute walk from Termini Station, 15 minutes walk from both Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, 10 minutes from Metro Station at Piazza Berberini.

Not sure I would stay there again
