We spent 4 nights in this hotel in late May. The service was very good; the staff was fluent in English and was helpful with the questions we had. The room was comfortable with good bedding, a little small, but no worse than one normally sees in Europe.

It is very close to the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain, on a quiet, charming street packed with art galleries. If you're into ruins you'll have a long hike or a subway ride, though, so those looking to see Roman sights might want to look elsewhere.

While we enjoyed the Hotel Manfredi, I don't think the rooms and the service quite justify the hefty price. We ended up staying here because it was the only hotel where we could get reservations, and though it's nice, if we return to Rome we will look for something less expensive.

The Manfredi is the type of place I normally would not tell people about, like a good fishing hole. The hotel is very nicely maintained, the staff was friendly and polite. The breakfast buffet of fresh baked croisants and pastries, home made yogurt and meats, cheeses, cereals and fresh fruit was one of the best I have had in Italy. The breakfast staff were cheerful and inviting. The rooms are small as is the bathroom, but the appointments are excellent. If you need alot of space this probably wont work for you, but you are in Rome and alot of space will cost you! The hotel is on the 3rd floor and has an antique elevator, but that is part of the charm of the place. The Via Margutta is a quiet artistic street and the location is excellent for exploring Rome by foot, or you can be on the Metro at the Spagna in 5 minutes. No free wifi, but I believe they had free wired high speed in room.

We have just returned from Hotel Manfredi after staying there for 3 nights (Aug 21 to 24th). The hotel room is magnificent (very high class). The room/bathroom were above and beyond what we expected. The service from all the staff was excellent as well. They were all very friendly and helpful. It made us feel very well cared for. Rome being a walking city we couldn't wait to get back to the peace and tranquility of the hotel at the end of each day. The lady who took care of our room did a very fine job, it was like the day we first arrived -- immaculately clean all throughout. The bed was very comfortable and each night's sleep was very quiet.
We did not however try their breakfast although it was offered to us everyday because we were always on the go. The other strong points are the location, we were only minutes away from the restaurants as well as the sites such as Piazza Spagna; shopping district, the Fontana de Trevi, and the Supermarket. At night around 9pm we would walk to the Piazza Spagna to hang around and it felt very safe.

Overall I would say this is probably the best hotel. I am glad I chose this hotel among the other that I had researched over the Internet/Bookstores. I would most definitely stay there on my next visit to Rome.

  • Liked — Cleanliness of the hotel, Service staff and the Location (not in order)
  • Disliked — nothing

The first problem with this hotel is that they do not have a 24/7 doorman or reception area. At about 8 every night, they lock the doors and you need to ring a bell in order to be let back into the hotel. The reception is actually on the 2d floor of the building, so you can't even see anyone inside the building. Late at night, this is pretty scary. There is no one around, and you are pretty much just hoping they answer the door quickly, which of course, they do not.

The rooms are VERY small. At the end of May, 2008, most of the building is under a major renovation, and they start work VERY early in the morning.

The other thing I found very disconcerting about this hotel was that you could NOT ask for an honest recommendation on a nearby restaurant. There is obviously a 'kick back' situation going on here, which then leads you to question the overall security of this hotel.

The only redeeming part of this hotel is that it is about 30 seconds away from the Spanish Steps.

I loved Rome, but would stay somewhere else when I visit again.

  • Liked — the location
