We stayed at the Hotel Forte after we saw photos of their roof top apartment with wonderful views. This is the apartment I booked and paid for, but was not what we got. When we arrived at the hotel and were shown to our room i honestly thought we'd been taken to a cupboard. The receptionist explained that the aprtament I had booked and paid for was no longer part of their hotel as it had been sold. We had received no prior warning, no apology and no refund. So we were stuck in this tiny hot room that I had paid over the odds for. The breakfast is just a joke. You are lucky if you are offered a cup of tea/coffee once during your stay. The halls are so noisy with the cleaners banging the doors shut. Besides that the hotel is in a very convenient location close to the spanish steps.

Spent countless hours trying to find a suitable hotel in Rome for 2 novice travellers.Once we established Hotel Forte was in a great spot we went for it.
We arrived to a warm welcome from very helpful staff who walked us through everything from hotel facilities and the local tourist sites.Given that it is a stones throw from the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain it is ideally situated,so many cafes and eateries to choose from basically at your doorstep.
Overall a great 3 days in Rome with all the wonderful historical landmarks and a hotel i would re-visit in a heartbeat.

Good location, not luxury nor silent, but if you need a good base for exploring Rome you could do a lot worse. The lack of restaurant forces culinary exploration and there is plenty near by.

Rooms are designed for sleeping, we didn't hear any noise and I haven't slept as well in years. Not excessively stylish, but practical.

The best thing going for this hotel is its location in Via Margutta where Felini lived. It’s just a couple of blocks from Piazza di Spagna and the Spanish Steps. Lots of smart shops and good restaurants are in the area. Piazza del Popolo, the Tiber River and the Ara Pacis are a short walk. Some of the attractions a bit further away, but easily reached on foot, are Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon and Piazza Navona.

The hotel has old-world charm. A grated-door, open-style elevator takes guests to the third floor reception with friendly and helpful English-speaking staff. Our room was at the end of the hallway past the “bar” where the ample continental breakfast, including cappuccino on order, was served. The double room with its armoire, writing table and chair was of adequate size to handle two large bags and two rollaboards, though the space between the wall and the foot of the bed was a bit tight. The mattress on the bed was a bit hard for us. We found the bathroom with tub spotlessly clean and modern. The room was serviced daily to our satisfaction.

The noise problems at the hotel have been noted in other reviews. The street noise didn’t bother us so much as that from the hotel activities particularly early in the morning. Conversations at the front desk and the clattering preparations for breakfast reverberated down the tile-floored hallway to wake us much earlier than we would’ve liked. It got us moving for our day’s sightseeing, but we would’ve liked to have had a choice in the matter!

For our first trip to Rome we chose this hotel for its location and the good price we on a travel website. We got our money’s worth and overall enjoyed our stay. I recommend the hotel if it can be had at a discount price. For our next trip, we’ll most likely stay elsewhere in central Rome due to the hard bed and the noise issue.

October 6, 2008

We booked our rooms months in advance. We were traveling with my 80 year old mother and requested 2 separate rooms. One double for single use and a large double for 2 persons. The room for her was extremely small, could not open the suitcase except for on the bed. Our room was also small and a double size bed. Bathrooms were small at best. The furnishings were old and did not look clean. Noise level was not good. They were renovating the floor above the hotel which is located on the first floor of the building.

I asked about the room on the website which looked lovely. We were given that room but it was not the same that was in the photo. This room was larger, same furnishings as the other rooms. Downside, it was on the street side, which was noisy all day and most of the night. We had to use ear plug to get any sleep at all. My mother was given our old room as an upgrade as there were no other rooms available. The staff was very friendly and tried hard to make things right. But you can not change that the hotel was misrepresented on their website and travel review websites.

I have traveled Europe extensively and am not a very picky person, but I was very disappointed with the reviews I previously read and I have relied on in the past, from this website to make my choices for hotels.

I would not recommend this place to anyone who wants an nice, clean, quiet place to rest.
