“A place to come back to over and over in the heart of Rome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2013

Tucked in a little side street right off piazza navona, I jumped from the hustle and bustle of a major city to a quiet corner of Rome, all illuminated by candles on the tables, good wine and excellent service. When I approached the restaurant and looked at the menu the family at the table next to the menu told me they had already come back several times and the food was excellent. Although just outside of the Jewish ghetto, this restaurant offers traditional Roman food, specialties from the Jewish ghetto, and a few Italian dishes with a middle Eastern twist (the black Egyptian fava beans with spices were exceptional). I ate at a table just outside the restaurant and had the mozzerella and jewish artichockes and after fresh sea bream with spices (the house specialty). The food was fresh and the service impeccable. We let the waiter choose the wine- a Nebbiolo from the Langhe which paired perfectly with the food. We spent EUR30 each. Often restaurants in the city center cater to tourists who will come to the restaurant once and never come back and as a consequence the restaurant skimps on quality and service- this is not the case with Alla Cancelleria. I will definately be coming back.

“Awesome Restaurant!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2013

Great location, good atmosphere down this little street, which is one of the streets in behind the Piazza Navona area. The staff is awesome, very helpful, if it's not on the menu they are the type that will accommodate you very well and make what you like. Family owed, and they care about your experience there. Great food, great people, slightly tucked away, just around the corner but still great location. Go there for dinner when in Rome.

“A place to keep in mind”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013

In an area overloaded with restaurants, and where it's difficult to pick the right spot, at "Alla Cancelleria" we found a good atmosphere and fair food and price. The service was fast and caring, the staff is often inquiring about the customer satisfaction (especially the owners) while the waiters are friendly but a bit too invasive.
Food was of a good quality and well assorted, but not outstanding. In line, though, with the price. The location is perfect: central but calm, being in a tiny pedestrian street. Inside or outside are fine for calm dining in couple or in a group.

“A good place with a special treat”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2013

A nice place located in quite side-street near major tourist attractions (p-za Navona, Campo de' Fiori, Largo di Torre Argentina). I am not so over-enthusiastic as other reviewers (many of whom are tourists, so they know little about Italian cuisine). Staff is nice and welcoming, but when there are too many guests you should wait sometimes.
Good overall.
Owners of the place originate from Egypt and are proud of it; but fear not: they DO know how to cook Italian food! Plus they have some Middle East specials on the menu: we tried baklava, it was fantastic.
Unlike many Italian restaurants, they speak English ;)
